The City of Tustin's Finance Department is currently seeking a motivated, and detail-oriented individual for the position of Finance Intern. This part-time opportunity is ideal for someone interested in gaining valuable, hands-on experience in municipal government while supporting the day-to-day operations of a professional Finance team.
The Finance Intern will have the opportunity to assist with a variety of administrative and finance-related functions while developing practical skills and gaining exposure to the operations of a local government agency.
The selected candidate will provide administrative support to the Finance Department. This position is ideal for a student who enjoys administrative work, is organized and dependable, and takes pride in completing routine tasks accurately and efficiently. Responsibilities will primarily include scanning and filing documents, performing data entry, organizing and maintaining records, assisting with document management, and providing general clerical support to help with the day-to-day operations of the department.
The ideal candidate will also be a positive and reliable team member who is eager to learn and willing to assist wherever needed. This opportunity is especially well suited for a current student pursuing a degree in finance, accounting, public administration, and/or business administration who is interested in gaining practical, on-the-job training and experience within a municipal Finance Department.
This is a part-time, at-will, non-benefitted position, with total hours limited to fewer than 1,000 per fiscal year. Hours may vary from week to week. The anticipated work schedule will include Mondays, with additional hours generally scheduled on Wednesdays and alternating Fridays. Specific hours may vary based on departmental needs.
Graduation from high school and current enrollment in an accredited college or university in pursuit of an associate or bachelor's degree with a major course of study in finance, accounting, public and/or business administration.
Satisfactory results from a background investigation, physical examination and administrative screening.

In lieu of Social Security, employees are required to contribute 5.5% of salary on a pre-tax basis every pay period to an OBRA 457 deferred compensation plan. The City contributes an additional 2%, for a total combined contribution of 7.5%.
