Job summary

The Samish Indian Nation is seeking a Finance Executive Director to lead its accounting team and ensure finances are accurate, compliant, and well managed. Reporting to the CFO, you will drive month-end close, GL functions, reconciliations, and interfund payables/receivables across the Nation.

You will supervise staff, set expectations, and provide mentorship while collaborating with HR and the CFO on hiring and job descriptions.

Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
• Five or more years of accounting or related experience; a background in not-for-profit, local government, or tribal government is strongly preferred.
• High proficiency with Microsoft Office, and either knowledge of fund accounting software or the ability to learn it quickly.
• Experience with accurate data entry, reconciliation, and file management.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the accounting staff, set expectations, and provide mentoring to grow careers within the Nation.
• Own the month-end close, analyze the general ledger, reconcile accounts, and approve journal vouchers.
• Maintain capital asset records and interfund payables; support annual financial statements and audits.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting and tax filings, with strong internal controls.
