Job summary

School District of Desoto County in Arcadia, Florida is seeking a Director of Finance to lead the district's financial operations, oversee budgeting, reporting, and compliance with governmental standards.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree with appropriate experience in governmental finance, plus extensive knowledge of state statutes, FEFP calculations, and auditing. Reports to the Deputy Superintendent and supervises assigned personnel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 3 years of accounting or governmental finance experience; or Associate's degree with 5 years of accounting or governmental finance experience; or High school diploma with eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in governmental finance.
• Satisfactory criminal background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Supervise insurance contract development.
• Provide leadership and supervision of assigned personnel; recommend employment actions.
• Assist in the supervision of the maintenance of student and staff databases and transfer of student records.
• Lead the preparation of FTE forecasts, projections, and reporting.
• Provide and interpret financial information; assist in development of fiscal policies.
• Study legislation, DOE requirements and audit issues relating to financial reporting and HR management.
• Advise on Encumbrance Authorizations and Draw Requests from OCO.
• Collaborate with accounting staff to ensure accurate practices.
• Prepare and develop the annual district budget and Superintendent's annual financial report.
• Prepare and submit online the district's annual budget to the Department of Education; direct financial reports and warrants.
• Establish and monitor procedures for timely reconciliation of bank accounts and payrolls; ensure invoices and vouchers are properly documented.
• Monitor and report on budget performance in schools and district divisions.
• Manage district's accounting system to meet information and reporting needs.
