As a member of the senior leadership team, you will provide financial leadership, ensure sound fiscal stewardship, and support organizational planning and decision-making.

This is an exciting opportunity for a collaborative leader who enjoys both strategic financial planning and hands-on operational management in a mission-driven environment.

What You'll Do
  • Lead all aspects of the organization's financial management, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, payroll, and internal controls.
  • Partner with the Executive Director and senior leadership team to develop annual budgets, long-range financial plans, and organizational strategies.
  • Prepare and present timely, accurate financial reports for leadership, the Board of Directors, Policy Council, grantors, and government agencies.
  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), federal and state regulations, Head Start Performance Standards, grant requirements, and organizational policies.
  • Oversee the annual audit and coordinate financial reviews conducted by external auditors and government agencies.
  • Develop and maintain effective financial policies, procedures, and internal controls that safeguard organizational assets and promote operational excellence.
  • Analyze financial performance and provide recommendations that support informed decision-making and organizational sustainability.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership on budget development, grant applications, financial reporting, and resource planning.
  • Serve as staff liaison to the Board Finance Committee and support financial planning related to organizational growth and development initiatives.
Operational Leadership

In addition to financial leadership, the Finance Director provides oversight of several key operational functions, including:

  • Supervising contracted information technology services and helping guide the organization's technology strategy in partnership with the Board Technology Committee.
  • Supervise Accounting Manager.
  • Overseeing IT asset management, technology planning, and data backup processes.
  • Managing facility operations, including vendor relationships, building lease administration, maintenance services, security systems, and other facility-related needs to support a productive work environment.

The ideal candidate is a strategic and collaborative finance professional who combines strong technical expertise with exceptional leadership and communication skills. You thrive in a mission-driven environment, enjoy partnering with colleagues across departments, and are committed to continuous improvement.

Candidates should have:

  • Experience in nonprofit, government-funded, or Head Start organizations is preferred.
  • Ability to analyze complex financial information and communicate it clearly to a variety of audiences including but not limited to the board of directors.
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Experience overseeing audits and ensuring regulatory and grant compliance.
  • Experience leading financial planning and supporting organizational decision-making.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
