Job summary

Carolina Casualty, part of the W. R. Berkley family, seeks a Finance Director to lead FP&A for its P&C portfolio. You will drive budgeting, forecasting, and driver-based models, partnering with Actuarial and Data teams to deliver actionable insights for profitability and pricing decisions.

The role requires insurance domain knowledge, advanced Excel, and experience with Power BI, SQL, and Python. Hybrid office environment in Florida is possible.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of FP&A, finance, or accounting experience.
• Strong understanding of insurance concepts (loss reserves, premiums, underwriting results) with P&C experience preferred.
• Proven forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis skills.
• Solid GL structures and financial reporting knowledge.
• Experience with actuarial or insurance data sets is a plus.
• Advanced Excel skills; familiarity with BI/data tools (Power BI, Tableau, SQL, Python).
• MBA or Master’s in Finance/Accounting preferred; CPA/CFA preferred or in progress.

Responsibilities

• Lead annual budgeting and monthly/quarterly forecasting for P&C lines.
• Develop driver-based financial models using premiums, claims, and expenses.
• Analyze variances and communicate drivers and risks to leaders.
• Partner with business leaders to provide financial insights for strategic planning.

Responsibilities

We are seeking a Finance Director to support financial planning and analysis (FP&A) within our Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance business. This role combines core finance responsibilities—forecasting, budgeting, and general ledger oversight with advanced data and analytics capabilities to drive actionable insights and improve financial decision-making. The ideal candidate will act as a bridge between Finance, Actuarial, and Data teams to ensure alignment across financial results, operational drivers, and analytical outputs.

Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)

• Lead the annual budgeting process and periodic forecasting cycles (monthly/quarterly) for P&C lines of business
• Develop driver-based financial models incorporating premiums, claims, loss ratios, and expenses
• Analyze variances between actuals, forecasts, and plan; clearly communicate drivers and risks
• Partner with business leaders to provide financial insights that support strategic planning

General Ledger & Financial Close Support

• Support close processes by reconciling financial results with underlying operational and actuarial data
• Perform general ledger “tie-outs” and ensure accuracy of financial reporting
• Investigate discrepancies across systems (policy admin, claims, finance) and resolve issues
• Collaborate with Accounting to ensure proper treatment of insurance-specific transactions (e.g., reserves, premium recognition)

Data & Analytics Integration

• Act as a key liaison between Finance and Data/Analytics teams
• Translate business and finance requirements into data models, dashboards, and reporting solutions
• Utilize data tools (e.g., Power BI, SQL, Excel, Python) to automate reporting and generate insights
• Enhance data governance and ensure consistency across financial and operational metrics

Business Partnering

• Work closely with Actuarial, Underwriting, and Claims teams to understand business drivers
• Provide insights on profitability, loss trends, and expense management
• Support decision-making on pricing, product performance, and cost optimization

Education Requirement

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in FP&A, finance, or accounting
• Strong understanding of insurance concepts (loss ratios, reserves, premiums, underwriting results), with PNC experience preferred
• Proven experience in forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis
• Solid understanding of general ledger structures and financial reporting
• Preferred experience working with actuarial or insurance data sets
• Advanced Excel skills; familiarity with data tools (Power BI, Tableau, SQL, Python)
• Advanced degree (MBA or Master’s) in Finance, Accounting, or Business strongly preferred
• CPA, CFA, preferred or in progress toward certification

Salary and Benefits

• Base Salary Range: $110,000 - $170,000
• Eligible to participate in annual discretionary bonus.
