Carolina Casualty, a member of W. R. Berkley Corporation, is seeking an experienced Actuarial Analyst to support pricing, reserving, and forecasting with advanced predictive models.

The role requires a strong background in P&C pricing, particularly in the commercial auto and trucking space, plus FCAS credentials. You will interact with multiple departments and contribute to growth and profitability through rigorous analytics.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; FCAS license preferred or required.
  • 5+ years in P&C commercial lines pricing and quantitative modeling.
  • Deep experience in commercial auto, especially trucking.
  • Experience building price elasticity models.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills; detail oriented.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Actuarial department with pricing, reserving, and forecasting objectives.
  • Build actuarial and predictive models using client data and analytics.
  • Perform multivariate pricing analysis and GLM-based modeling.
  • Prepare and combine data from internal warehouses and external sources.
  • Ensure data validity and model stability through reviews and data cleansing.
  • Provide ad-hoc analyses and support for special projects.

Responsibilities

The position will assist the Actuarial department in providing a full range of responsibilities necessary for the company to achieve its overall goals. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a desire to take ownership of responsibilities and strive to improve current processes and analyses. The position requires strong all-around technical skills including programming, model building and analytics. This person will be an experienced predictive modeling analyst who will organize and perform modeling and actuarial analysis using WR Berkley systems and procedures to support pricing, reserving, predictive modeling, and forecasting processes while aligning and contributing to company growth and profitabilityobjectives.

A successful candidate will also operate as a team player with strong commutation skills. The position will have regular interactions with all other departments as well as with senior company and corporate management. This is a great opportunity for creative utilization of skills, growth and high visibility.

Key Functionswill include but not be limited to:

    • Perform conceptual modeling design tasks by applying specialized knowledge of the Berkley organization’s customer needs and data gathering processes
    • Build actuarial and other predictive model using proprietary client data and analytics
    • Perform complex multivariate pricing analysis; build complex models using generalized linear modeling and related techniques;leveragetheoretical understanding and apply practical adjustments to extreme value profitability distributions and use these models in predictive modeling applications
    • Prepare model data using pricing and general data warehouses and by combining data from internal systems with data from external sources
    • Cross-check data using actuarial reports,pricingand reserving data repositories; examine data and model results with respect to consistency with product features and business goals; evaluate,verifyandvalidatemodel stability
    • Prepare data for predictive models and reports involving predictive model outputs; correlate data with other business reports and evaluate model performance in comparison with business expectations
    • Maintain close contact with internal and external customers and supervisor for oversight of data validity, data cleansing, and for obtaining business insight to help with building predicative models; actively seek out peer review input from supervisor, immediateteamandothers within WRBC and incorporate it into final work product
    • Ad-hoc analysis and support for special projects as needed
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • FCAS license needed
  • Min of 5 years in P&C commercial lines insurance pricing and quantitative modeling
  • Deep experience in commercial auto line of business, particularly trucking
  • Experience building price elasticity models
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skillsrequired; detail oriented
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skillsrequired
  • Strong time management and organizational skills

The company offers a competitive compensation plan and robust benefits package for full-time regular employees which for this role include:

  • Base Salary Range: $150,000 - $204,000
  • Eligible to participate in annual discretionary bonus.
  • Benefits: Health, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability, Wellness, Paid Time Off, 401(k) and Profit-Sharing plans.

The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
