The Opportunity

A well-established commercial construction organization is seeking a Regional Finance Director to lead financial performance, planning, and reporting while serving as a strategic business partner to regional and operational leadership.

This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for an experienced finance professional who understands the financial complexities of commercial construction and can connect project-level financial performance to broader business objectives. The successful candidate will bring a strong foundation in construction accounting, project profitability, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, forecasting, and financial controls, combined with the leadership skills necessary to influence decisions across the organization.

Working closely with executive leadership, project management, and operations, the Regional Finance Director will oversee regional financial planning and analysis, strengthen financial discipline, identify risks and opportunities, and help drive sustainable profitability and growth.

Key Responsibilities
Regional Financial Leadership
  • Lead regional financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and performance analysis.
  • Evaluate regional financial results against budgets, forecasts, and prior periods, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Provide executive leadership with timely, accurate financial information and actionable recommendations.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators to measure financial health, operational effectiveness, and business performance.
  • Support strategic planning, resource allocation, and business decisions through financial modeling and scenario analysis.
  • Oversee project-level financial performance, including job costing, WIP reporting, cost-to-complete forecasting, and project profitability.
  • Review project budgets, committed costs, change orders, revenue recognition, and estimated costs to complete.
  • Partner with project managers and operations leaders to evaluate project margins, cost variances, labor productivity, and forecast assumptions.
  • Identify potential margin erosion, cost overruns, billing issues, and other financial risks while driving timely corrective action.
  • Ensure project financial reporting accurately reflects current performance and anticipated project outcomes.
Financial Reporting and Accounting
  • Oversee regional financial reporting, period-end close activities, reconciliations, and internal reporting processes.
  • Maintain the integrity of project accounting, WIP schedules, revenue recognition, and general ledger reporting.
  • Monitor regional P&L performance, EBITDA, working capital, and cash flow.
  • Strengthen internal controls, accounting practices, and reporting consistency.
  • Partner with corporate finance to ensure accurate, timely, and consistent financial information.
Operational Partnership and Business Performance
  • Serve as a trusted financial advisor to regional leadership, project executives, and operational management.
  • Translate financial results into meaningful insights that support operational decisions and improve profitability.
  • Collaborate with project teams to improve forecasting accuracy, cost management, billing performance, and cash flow.
  • Identify process improvements that increase financial visibility, accountability, and operational efficiency.
  • Challenge assumptions, communicate financial risks, and promote a culture of financial ownership throughout the region.
Leadership and Team Development
  • Lead, mentor, and develop finance and accounting personnel.
  • Establish clear expectations for financial reporting, analytical rigor, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships and promote collaboration between finance, project management, and operations.
  • Develop scalable processes and reporting practices that support the region's continued growth.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive finance or accounting experience, preferably within commercial construction.
  • At least six years of leadership experience managing finance, accounting, or project financial teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in commercial construction, with a strong understanding of construction accounting and project-driven financial operations.
  • Advanced knowledge of job costing, WIP reporting, percentage-of-completion accounting, revenue recognition, and cost-to-complete forecasting.
  • Proven ability to oversee budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, project profitability analysis, and regional P&L performance.
  • Experience partnering with senior leadership and operations teams to influence business decisions and improve financial results.
  • Strong understanding of cash flow management, working capital, billing, collections, and financial controls.
  • Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with construction accounting or enterprise financial systems.
  • Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a commercially minded finance leader who understands that construction finance extends beyond accounting accuracy and month-end reporting. They know how to evaluate project performance, recognize financial risks before they become larger issues, challenge forecasts, and work directly with operational leaders to protect margins and improve results.

They combine strategic financial leadership with practical knowledge of project accounting and construction operations. They are comfortable communicating with executive leadership, developing finance talent, and holding teams accountable for accurate forecasts and financial performance.

Candidates currently serving as a Regional Controller, Division Controller, Finance Director, Senior Finance Manager, or Regional Finance Manager within commercial construction may be particularly well suited for this opportunity.

Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary based on experience - High $100s
  • Annual bonus opportunity of 25%.
  • Additional performance-based incentive opportunity of 10%.
  • Five weeks of paid time off.
  • Opportunity to influence regional financial strategy and partner with executive leadership.
  • A leadership role with direct impact on project profitability, operational performance, and business growth.
