Town of Aberdeen seeks a proven leader to serve as Finance Director, overseeing municipal finances, preparing the annual budget, and guiding a finance team. The role advises the Town Manager, directors, and Town Board, ensuring accurate, timely financial operations and compliance with laws and regulations.

Due to the upcoming retirement of our Finance Director, the Town of Aberdeen, situated in the growing NC Sandhills Region adjacent to Pinehurst and Southern Pines, is seeking a proven leader to join our team as the next Finance Director. This executive-level position oversees all municipal financial operations for the Town and serves as a trusted advisor to the Town Manager, department directors, and Town Board. The Finance Director’s primary duties consist of managing the Town’s annual budget of $24 million as well as multiple capital project funds and ensuring that the Town’s accounting and finance functions and operations are completed timely, accurately and efficiently; and that they are compliant with all federal, state and local laws, ordinances and regulations. The successful candidate for this position will lead the Town’s Finance team, which currently consists of a Finance Technician, Accounting Operations Specialist, and three part-time Customer Service Representatives in the Utility Billing Division. This position will require above average abilities to build interpersonal relationships, manage multiple projects with competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment, exhibit excellent oral and written communications, demonstrate grant management capabilities, experience with a sophisticated financial software system, and a broad working knowledge of financial management functions including utility cash management and debt management. The ideal candidate will possess strong governmental accounting knowledge, exceptional leadership skills, and a commitment to transparency, fiscal stewardship, and customer service.
Hiring range: $103,385 – $140,000
