Job summary

WEST MICHIGAN COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH SYSTEM is seeking a Finance Coordinator in Ludington to oversee core financial functions, including accounting, AP, payroll, and grant reporting. You will work with the Director of Finance to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory compliance in a high-pressure environment.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Accounting or Finance with at least five years of direct financial responsibilities and supervisory experience in healthcare/government settings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field plus five years’ experience with direct financial/accounting responsibilities.
  • Three years of experience in Accounting/Finance, supervisory experience and healthcare or governmental setting preferred.
  • Must possess excellent math skills and an ability for numeric accuracy.
  • Ability to analyze and use data for decision making.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Sound understanding of management processes relative to organizing, planning, implementing, and evaluating.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to utilize electronic spreadsheets as well as computerized General Ledger, Billing, Payroll, and other financial systems.
  • Thorough working knowledge of Federal, State and local regulations governing areas of responsibility.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and provide own transportation to and from meetings and activities at varying work locations including all agency locations in Lake, Mason, and Oceana Counties.
  • Lived experiences with mental illness/developmental disabilities/substance use disorders are valued.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates general ledger activity, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
  • Assists with month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Assists with the budget process and monitoring budget vs. actual variances.
  • Ensures timely and accurate AP processing and payroll validation.
  • Ensures cash receipts are properly handled with controls and reconciled.
  • Assists in preparation of financial reports and monitors expenditures against budget.
  • Reviews grant reports for accuracy and timely submission.
  • Maintains GAAP, GASB compliance and internal controls.
  • Supports audit year preparation and compliance.
  • Coordinates workflows across AP, payroll, and accounting functions.

Description

The Finance Coordinator is a professional-level position responsible for coordination and supervision of core financial functions including accounting, accounts payable, payroll, and grant financial reporting. This position works as a member of the Finance Team and provides day-to-day oversight of financial operations to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with organizational, state, and federal requirements. The Finance Coordinator partners with the Director of Finance to support financial management, reporting, audit preparation, and process improvement efforts. This position requires a team-oriented individual capable of utilizing educational background, governmental accounting standards, experience, and data to complete financial and supervisory duties. Position requires independent decision making and excellent communication skills and must be able to function well in a high-pressure environment consisting of performing multiple tasks with deadlines.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Accounting & Financial Operations Coordination

    Coordinates general ledger activity, journal entries, and account reconciliations. Assists with month-end and year-end close processes. Assists with the budget process and monitoring budget vs. actual variances.

  • Accounts Payable, Payroll, & Cash Receipts Oversight

    Ensures timely and accurate AP processing. Supports payroll validation and reconciliation. Ensures federal and state regulations and reporting related to AP and payroll are followed. Ensures cash receipts are properly handled with appropriate controls and reconciled.

  • Reporting & Monitoring

    Assists in preparation of financial reports. Monitors expenditures against budget and identify variances. Reviews grant reports, ensures accuracy and adherence to grant requirements as well as timely submission.

  • Compliance & Audit Support

    Maintains a system that conforms to GAAP, GASB, and applicable regulations and is externally auditable. Maintains acceptable level of internal controls. Supports audit preparation and ensure adherence to internal controls.

  • Supervision & Team Support

    Coordinates workflows across AP, payroll, and accounting functions. Provides guidance, supervision, training, and support to finance staff.
