Job description

Please note that this position requires being onsite at least 3 days per week.

The Clinical and Research Financial Analyst uses skills as a seasoned, experienced research administrator to independently develop and/or oversee research proposals, awards, and/or transactions related to contract and grant management. The analyst maintains contract and grant records in compliance with institutional sponsor policies, completes and approves transactions for signature by an authorized institutional official, and works on complex proposals and awards that may involve multiple investigators or sub‑awards. The role also involves guiding less experienced staff and may have delegated signature authority as a Central Role (CR) on certain campuses.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related area and three or more years of relevant experience and/or equivalent experience/training
• Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non‑Federal sponsors, preferably in a university environment
• Ability to manage a significant volume of transactions
• Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting
• Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software for financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, financial modeling)
• Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization and communication skills; and a customer‑service focus across broad and diverse subject areas
• Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration
• Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles
• Demonstrated knowledge of effective grant funding processes, procedures, and techniques
• Strong writing skills in a variety of styles to draft persuasive text for a variety of audiences while ensuring adherence to funding sponsor guidelines

Preferred Qualifications

• 6+ years of financial work experience
• BA in Finance, Accounting, Business, or Healthcare Administration
• MBA
• Thorough knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.
• Experience with UCSF Financial Systems (UC Path, MyExpense, MyReports, BearBuy)
• Experience with local government sponsors (e.g., SFDPH, City/County of San Francisco)

Your placement within the salary range depends on a number of factors, including your work experience and internal equity.
