Job summary

BlueScope in Kalama, WA seeks a Financial Analyst I to join our Finance & Accounting team. You will translate business objectives into financial plans, analyze results, and support monthly close and budgeting processes.

You will collaborate with leadership to drive cost optimization, ensure accuracy of reports, and maintain controls across plant sites in a fast-paced environment. This is a hybrid role with onsite presence in Kalama, WA, and quarterly reviews and KPI tracking involved.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or related field.
• 3 years of accounting experience with emphasis in financial analysis.
• ERP experience; SAP preferred.
• 1 year experience working with an ERP system.
• MBA, CPA or cost accounting experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide timely financial information and analysis for actual, forecast and budget results.
• Prepare budgets, business plans and performance reports for leadership.
• Manage product costing and inventory valuation across plant sites.
• Support monthly close and communicate key results to leadership.
• Drive continuous improvement in financial reporting quality.
• Assist with material for monthly business reviews and board discussions.

Job Title: Financial Analyst Department: Finance & Accounting Job Title Reporting to: Financial Planning & Analysis Manager Primary Purpose & Value of the Department & Position The Finance & Accounting department ensures the company’s leadership team is provided with timely, high quality and accurate financial information and advice regarding actual, forecasted and budgeted results. This information is critical to support business decisions via identification and analysis of key business drivers and evaluation of cost/benefit analysis and business improvement options. The Financial Analyst I is the central player in the reporting and analysis of financial results and working with the financial leadership team. In addition, the Financial Analyst I assists to translate business objectives into strategies, actions and targets applicable to the management and finance team that deliver short-term objectives (month to month) but also provide a realistic foundation to achieving longer-term objectives (a year or more ahead). This is a Full Time, Hybrid Role.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Ensure the leadership team is provided with timely, high quality and accurate financial information and advice regarding actual, forecast, and budgeted results. This information is critical to support business decisions via identification and analysis of key business drivers and evaluation of cost/benefit analysis and business improvement options.
• Prepare financial evaluations, prepare and manage budgets, prepare business plans, report on performance to plan, communicate and educate about key business results, stewardship of assets and risk management activities, and submit non-plant capital expenditures
• Manages product costing and inventory valuation for multiple plant sites
• Provide impromptu financial analysis and detail in a very quick turn-around environment under intense pressure with multiple priorities
• Manages product costing and inventory valuation for multiple plant sites
• Deliver continuous improvement in the quality of the management and financial reporting systems and output, identifying opportunities to extract additional value and reduce business complexity.
• Support via the preparation of material for presentation and discussion with company’s leadership team – monthly business review process
• Improve stewardship of the regional business assets by ensuring adequate controls and adherence to policies and standards
• Ensure adherence to the regional Delegation of Authority ongoing

Education & Experience Qualifications

Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or a related area 3 years of experience in an accounting role with emphasis in financial analysis role Accounting degree 1 year working with an ERP system Preferred: MBA degree 3+ years of experience in a cost accounting role 5+ years of experience in a relevant role Certified Public Accountant certification Construction and Manufacturing operations experience Experience with SAP Skills & Competencies Dealing with ambiguity Organizational agility – Connect and communicate across the business Drive for commercial outcomes by applying business acumen Drive improved performance and change Contribute to strategy Leverage digital awareness for continual finance transformation Apply functional/technical skills Manage risk and governance Managing through systems Customer focus Presentation skills Planning Intellectual horsepower Problem solving Initiative
