Job summary

BlueScope North America is seeking a Financial Analyst to support the Finance & Accounting team. The role focuses on budgeting, forecasting, cost analysis and reporting to senior leadership.

You will translate business objectives into actionable financial plans, partner with plant sites on costing, and help drive continuous improvement in reporting and controls. Hybrid role with collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or a related area.
  • 3 years of experience in an accounting role with emphasis in financial analysis.
  • Accounting degree
  • 1 year working with an ERP system

Responsibilities

  • Ensure leadership has timely, high-quality financial information for decision making.
  • Prepare budgets, forecasts and business plans; report performance against plan.
  • Manage product costing and inventory valuation for multiple plant sites.
  • Provide rapid financial analysis in a fast-paced environment.

Primary Purpose & Value Of The Department & Position

The Finance & Accounting department ensures the company’s leadership team is provided with timely, high quality and accurate financial information and advice regarding actual, forecasted and budgeted results. This information is critical to support business decisions via identification and analysis of key business drivers and evaluation of cost/benefit analysis and business improvement options.

The Financial Analyst I is the central player in the reporting and analysis of financial results and working with the financial leadership team. In addition, the Financial Analyst I assists to translate business objectives into strategies, actions and targets applicable to the management and finance team that deliver short-term objectives (month to month) but also provide a realistic foundation to achieving longer-term objectives (a year or more ahead). This is a Full Time, Hybrid Role.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Ensure the leadership team is provided with timely, high quality and accurate financial information and advice regarding actual, forecast, and budgeted results. This information is critical to support business decisions via identification and analysis of key business drivers and evaluation of cost/benefit analysis and business improvement options.
  • Prepare financial evaluations, prepare and manage budgets, prepare business plans, report on performance to plan, communicate and educate about key business results, stewardship of assets and risk management activities, and submit non-plant capital expenditures
  • Manages product costing and inventory valuation for multiple plant sites
  • Provide impromptu financial analysis and detail in a very quick turn-around environment under intense pressure with multiple priorities
  • Manages product costing and inventory valuation for multiple plant sites
  • Deliver continuous improvement in the quality of the management and financial reporting systems and output, identifying opportunities to extract additional value and reduce business complexity.
  • Support via the preparation of material for presentation and discussion with company’s leadership team – monthly business review process
  • Improve stewardship of the regional business assets by ensuring adequate controls and adherence to policies and standards
  • Ensure adherence to the regional Delegation of Authority

Minimum Education & Experience Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or a related area
  • 3 years of experience in an accounting role with emphasis in financial analysis role
  • Accounting degree
  • 1 year working with an ERP system
Preferred
  • MBA degree
  • 3+ years of experience in a cost accounting role
  • 5+ years of experience in a relevant role
  • Certified Public Accountant certification
  • Construction and Manufacturing operations experience
  • Experience with SAP
