What We Do: Austin Film Festival hosts a robust Film Competition, averaging 6,000 submissions annually from around the world. Hosting a variety of categories to submit in, our goal is to support and uplift emerging storytellers, while helping new voices break into the industry. As volunteer competition screeners, your job is to conduct a thorough evaluation and give thoughtful feedback to assist in curating a program for our audience.
About Us: Austin Film Festival furthers the art and craft of storytelling by inspiring and championing the work of screenwriters, filmmakers, and all artists who use the language of film and television to tell a story. AFF is dedicated to providing unique cultural events and services, enhancing public awareness and participation, and encouraging long-lasting community partnerships.
Screener Program: The ideal candidate is a voracious movie watcher well-versed in filmmaking basics with a keen sense for analyzing narrative. At AFF, storytelling is our focus! Testing helps us determine the strength of a screener’s eye for storytelling and quality.
All screeners must provide a current resume and complete an application and testing process before being considered.
Accepted screeners are required to join a mandatory Onboarding Call prior to receiving film assignments. Screeners will assess films in categories such as: Storytelling & Plot, Originality & Concept, Characters & Dialogue, Direction & Structure, and General Impression.
One exciting aspect of screening for AFF is that each hour screened contributes towards a Badge for our 32nd Annual Austin Film Festival this October. Joining our Screener Program offers a unique opportunity to grow as a filmmaker and enjoy great movies!
