Job summary

KUOW Puget Sound Public Radio in Seattle seeks a Fill-In-Producer to craft on-demand and broadcast shows, writing, booking interviews and producing segments. You’ll support multiple show leads, pitch stories, and manage field recordings for online and on-air content.

The role is a limited-term, hourly position with flexibility to work evenings and weekends, with hybrid/occasional telework options, and opportunities to contribute to fundraising drives and station initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field.
• Two years of professional journalism experience.
• Knowledge of public radio journalism best practices.

Responsibilities

• Produce for KUOW’s digital and broadcast shows, including researching and booking guests.
• Back up staff producers and coordinate with show leads.
• Monitors news sources, pitches coverage, and writes and edits stories.
• Create field recordings and conduct interviews for on-air and online.
• Write and update online content and upload audio files.
• Provide production support for fundraising drives and station initiatives.

Job DescriptionKUOW has an outstanding opportunity for Fill-In-Producer to join their team.About this OpportunityReporting to the News Director the Fill-In-Producer is responsible for producing KUOW’s variety of on-demand and broadcast shows. Duties include booking, writing, pre-interviewing, audio production, scheduling, and participating in story meetings.This role serves as fill-in producer for KUOW’s variety of on-demand and broadcast shows. Duties include booking, writing, pre-interviewing, audio production, scheduling, and participating in story meetings.This is a Limited-Term, Hourly temporary position anticipated to be up to 12 months in duration; hours will vary. Must be able to work a varied schedule when required, including some evenings and weekends.Key ResponsibilitiesProduce for KUOW’s digital and broadcast shows (60%)Back up staff producersWork closely with different show leads and teams to support show production.Monitor multiple sources for news; suggest stories for coverage.Mix and upload audio files.Create original journalism (30%)Pitch and produce original stories for broadcast and podcast showsCreate field recordings and conduct interviews.Write and update stories for online audience.Book guests, provide background research.Other duties as assigned (10%)Provide production support for on-air fundraising drives.Support internal station initiatives.Required QualificationsTo be considered for this opportunity your application must demonstrate you meet both the minimum qualifications and additional qualifications listed below.
