Job summary

Saft America, Inc. in Cockeysville, Maryland, is seeking experienced machine operators for their fill and formation department. Job description

All About You

We are looking for experienced machine operators to work within our fill and formation department. These technicians will be responsible for a variety of tasks, to include operating machines using programmable logic controls, and utilizing a range of calibrated tools. Our technicians in this area have a hand in the filling of battery cells with electrolyte. They may also be responsible for charging our battery cells with electricity, by running test scripts via manufacturing software programs. These battery cells will ultimately power products for the space, defense and racing industries. Technicians will work one of three shifts – first, second or third. All shifts are eight hours in length.

Requirements
  • HS diploma or equivalent
  • Additional schooling or training in a technical field is preferred
  • Basic computer skills with some proficiency of Excel and database usage
  • 2 years Manufacturing experience preferably running machinery
  • Ability to comprehend written instructions and to clearly document and record the results of the work that you perform
  • Experience running machinery and/or test equipment as well as and producing products of high quality
  • Possess great organizational skills and maintain an organized workstation to optimize product flow to feed downstream stations
  • Ability to safely work with energized cells and has a basic understanding of electrical circuits, to include an understanding of voltage, current and impedance
  • Experience using basic hand tools to include torque tools, electrical meters
  • Keen eye for detail and be able to notice small variances in processes and materials that may affect final product quality
  • Communicate clearly and accurately to describe in detail any machine or product issues that may have occurred and possess the ability to communicate this information to all levels of management
  • Reliable, trustworthy and able to work either independently or as part of a team
  • Problem solving skills that permit diagnosing and correcting of issues that may occur during equipment operation
  • Ability and willingness to rapidly learn and understand the tasks assigned
Working Conditions
  • PPE requirements include safety glasses, face shield, steel toed shoes, latex/neoprene gloves and lab coats
  • Work environment will be in a dry room where cooled and low humidity air is constantly present
  • This position could require standing for most of each day
  • This position requires working in an environment where chemicals are present
  • Able to lift 50 lbs
Responsibilities
  • Work in an environment where adhering to safety policies and procedures are required as well as consistently utilizing safe work practices
  • Set up, operate and maintain production and test equipment, machines and tools using process documents, diagrams, and written instructions
  • Operate filling equipment, temperature chambers and various other test equipment and become proficient in each machine’s operations
  • Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition utilizing 6S standards while following all safety requirements
  • Inspect for product conformance by performing visual inspection and reviewing electrical performance results
  • Follow written and verbal instructions as well as possess an ability to organize and perform multiple duties
  • Possess the desire, aptitude and energy to become proficient to perform all of the department’s tasks
