Job summary

SGS North America Inc. seeks Welding Inspectors for multiple locations across the USA on a contract basis. Inspectors will perform visual inspections, witness NDT, and verify weld quality to ensure compliance with ASME, AWS, and API codes, with reports documenting results.

Five+ years in welding inspections are required, including QA/vendor surveillance experience. AWS/CWI/CSWIP/API credentials preferred. Travel and per diem may apply; 1099 contractor arrangement.

Qualifications

• Must have AWS/CWI/CSWIP/API certification from the list provided.
• Minimum five years industrial welding-related inspection experience, with two in QA/vendor surveillance/shop inspections.
• 5–10 years of industry experience (Oil and Gas).
• Demonstrated knowledge of welding inspections in manufacturer shops/facilities.
• Welding inspection experience with pipelines and equipment (pressure vessels, heat exchangers, pumps) is a plus.
• Monday–Friday schedule; 8–10 hours/day.
• Hourly rate $40–$45/hr + $0.70/km; no set schedule; contact as needed.
• Possible per diem if site exceeds 200 miles round trip from residence.
• Independent contractor (1099) agreement with SGS North America Inc.

Responsibilities

• Ensure welds and processes comply with codes, standards, specs and project requirements via visual inspection; witness and verify NDT reports.
• Monitor welding parameters and inspect materials and equipment.
• Review quality documents (WPS/PQR) and assess quality; issue reports or corrective actions.
• Verify welder qualifications; ensure WPS and specs are followed.
• Ensure welding activities adhere to relevant codes (ASME, AWS, API) and contractual requirements.
• Perform pre-, in-process, and post-weld inspections to identify defects.
• Conduct visual inspections of welded joints (dimensions, penetration, bead formation).
• Witness NDT and interpret/verify results.
• Prepare detailed inspection reports documenting results and issues.
