Job summary

SGS is seeking Welding Inspectors in multiple locations across the United States on a contract basis. The role involves performing visual inspections, witnessing NDT, and ensuring welds meet codes, standards, and project requirements.

The inspector signs an independent contractor agreement (1099) with SGS North America Inc. Candidates should have 5+ years welding inspection experience (oil and gas preferred), and hold AWS/CWI/CSWIP/API credentials.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five (5) years industrial welding-related inspection experience, with two (2) years in QA/vendor surveillance/shop inspections.
• Minimum of 5–10 years of industry experience (Oil and Gas).
• Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of welding inspections in manufacturer shops/facilities.
• Experience with welding inspections of pipelines and equipment such as pressure vessels and heat exchangers is an asset.
• Work schedule is Monday to Friday – 8 to 10 hours/day.

Responsibilities

• Perform visual inspections and witness/verify NDT reports.
• Monitor welding parameters and inspect materials and equipment.
• Review quality documents (WPS/PQR) and issue corrective action reports.
• Verify welders are qualified and that WPS and specifications are followed.
• Ensure all welding activities adhere to industry codes (ASME, AWS, API) and contractual requirements.
• Conduct pre-weld, in-process, and post-weld inspections to identify defects.
• Prepare detailed inspection reports documenting results.
• Witness NDT and interpret/verify results.
• Visual inspection of welded joints for dimensions, penetration, and bead formation.
