Job summary

Bechtel is seeking a Welding/Mechanical/Piping Field Engineer to lead and maintain global construction welding programs on large EPC projects in Brownsville, TX. The role includes managing the welding test lab, rod room, heat treatment program, and lab quality plan, with guidance to ensure defects are corrected before final inspection.

You will provide welding engineering support to ensure construction meets ASME/API/AWS standards, coordinate QA processes, and oversee subcontracted NDE.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or international equivalent required.
• 8–14 years of relevant experience depending on level.
• Knowledge of welding codes (ASME/API/AWS) and weld procedures.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates work activities for Project Field Engineer and Lead Field Welding engineer in implementing the site welding program.
• Implements and maintains Bechtel Field Welding program for all welding operations.
• Provides technical assistance to field superintendents and crafts.
• Ensures supervision and craft personnel involved in welding are educated on applicable codes and project requirements.
• Provides welding engineering support to ensure construction meets all code and Bechtel procedures.
• Provides technical expertise for ASME, API, and AWS or other code designed items.
• Coordinates pre- and post-weld heat treatment program with Bechtel or subcontractor.
• Coordinates rod room and rod room attendant to ensure weld filler materials meet requirements.
• Assists in management of the NDE subcontract, including scheduling and coordination.
• Coordinates welder qualification lab to ensure high quality welders are employed.
• Maintains welding documentation and credibility of the Welding Program.
• Supports field inspections of welding work to ensure conformance with requirements.
• Advises on recertification of quality behaviors and defects prior to final inspection.
• Implements the project quality control program for welding.
• Requisitioning and setup of welding consumables program.
• Assists field procurement in inspection and receipt of welding materials.
• Implements weld inspection tracking system using TEAMWorks/WITS.
