Job summary

General Dynamics Land Systems in Sterling Heights, MI seeks skilled fabricators and technicians to drive road tests on tracked and wheeled vehicles and to perform mechanical and electrical fabrication tasks. The role involves working with engines, transmissions, suspensions, and test equipment, and requires adaptability to overtime and shift changes.

Ideal candidates will be able to read drawings, assemble prototypes, fabricate electrical harnesses, and operate cranes or welding equipment.

Qualifications

• Overtime availability is required.
• Willingness to work 2nd or 3rd shift as needed.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Drive road-test tracked and wheeled vehicles under varied conditions at multiple sites.
• Perform below-the-hook lifting and rigging per safety standards.
• Disassemble, repair, modify, assemble, adapt, and reinstall vehicle components and systems.
• Fabricate and assemble experimental parts, fixtures, and tools from drawings.
• Fabricate electrical harnesses and test panels for vehicles.
• Suggest design changes during fabrication.
• Use hand, bench, and machine tools and welding equipment.
• Conduct highly skilled mechanical and testing tasks with limited supervision.
• Maintain a safe work environment by following safety directives.
