Job summary

Sunrise Telecom Inc. is seeking a field-based Utility Locator to identify and mark underground utilities across job sites in Minnesota. You will read maps, interpret blueprints, and operate locating equipment to ensure accurate placement for construction crews.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma, a valid license, and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather. Strong communication and reliability are essential for coordinating with contractors and project managers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience in utility locating or construction preferred.
• Ability to read maps, prints, and technical documents.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Able to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain.
• Comfortable using tablets, GPS systems, locating equipment.
• Strong communication and time management skills.

Responsibilities

• Locate and mark underground utilities using specialized equipment.
• Interpret maps, blueprints, and GIS data for accuracy.
• Utilize electromagnetic locating devices and GPR as needed.
• Clearly mark locations using paint and flags per industry standards.
• Communicate with contractors and project managers about locations and conflicts.
• Document locates with photos, sketches, and reports in company systems.
• Comply with safety regulations and local/state guidelines, including 811 requirements.
• Respond to emergency locate requests as needed.
• Maintain and care for company equipment and vehicles.
