Job summary

Flyttr in San Antonio, Texas, seeks a Field Trials Manager to lead planning, coordination, and execution of pest management field trials supporting our biosecurity platform.

You will design trial protocols, supervise field teams, ensure safety and regulatory compliance, and collaborate with partners to translate findings into actionable insights for protecting agriculture and public health. This role requires travel and hands-on leadership capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Entomology, Biology, Ecology, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Wildlife Biology, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience planning, conducting, and managing field-based scientific research, agricultural trials, pest management programs, or similar field operations.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in dynamic field environments.
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly to field locations and work outdoors in varying environmental conditions.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet applicable company driving requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning and execution of field trials supporting Flyttr's pest management and biosecurity programs—particularly focus on NWS.
  • Develop detailed field trial plans, timelines, protocols, resource requirements, and standard operating procedures, identifying potential pitfalls.
  • Ensure field activities are conducted consistently with approved study protocols, scientific objectives, and operational requirements.
  • Support analysis and interpretation of field trial results in collaboration with scientific teams.
  • Contribute to technical reports, presentations, and recommendations based on field trial findings.
  • Maintain readiness of field equipment and ensure maintenance, calibration, inventory, and documentation.
  • Work with EHS, regulatory, scientific, and quality teams to meet safety and compliance standards.
  • Ensure personnel receive appropriate training before assigned responsibilities.
  • Maintain accurate trial documentation and support reviews as required.
  • Serve as a key operational contact with government agencies, research institutions, landowners, agricultural partners, contractors, and other external stakeholders.
  • Build strong relationships with partners involved in field trial planning and execution.
  • Communicate trial objectives, schedules, responsibilities, progress, risks, and results clearly to stakeholders.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of field personnel as the program grows.
  • Provide occasional weekend support as part of a rotation.

Role Overview

To aid inFlyttr's mission to combat thecritical threatfromNew World screwworm (NWS)in the United States,the Field Trials Managerwill lead the planning, coordination, execution, and evaluation of field trials supporting Flyttr's pest management and biosecurityplatforms. Thisrole willbe responsible fortranslating scientific and operationalobjectivesinto well designed field activities, ensuring trials are conducted safely, consistently, andin accordance with approved protocols and applicable regulatory requirements.

Working closely with scientific, operational, regulatory, and external partners, the Field Trials Manager will oversee field trialand monitoringactivities frominitialplanning through execution, data collection, analysis support, and final reporting. The role requires a strong combination of scientific understanding, project management, field operations, and stakeholder coordination.The position will be based inSan Antonio, Texas,with field activities expected to cover much of the state and region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning and execution of field trials supporting Flyttr's pest management and biosecurity programs- particularly focus on NWS.
  • Develop detailed field trial plans, timelines, protocols, resource requirements, andstandardoperational procedures, whileidentifyingpossible pitfalls.

Qualifications & Experience
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Entomology, Biology, Ecology, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Wildlife Biology, ora relatedscientific discipline.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experienceplanning,conducting,andormanaging field based scientific research, agricultural trials, pest management programs, or similar field operations.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in dynamic field environments.
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly to field locations and work outdoors in varying environmental conditions.

Preferred
  • Master's degree in Entomology, Biology, Ecology, Agriculture, Environmental Science, ora related field.
  • Experience working with livestock systems and/or livestock pests is highly desirable.
  • Experience coordinating largescale monitoring programsfor flying insects.
  • Experience with GIS and electronic data capture systems.
  • Experience with Sterile Insect Technique or other area wide pest management programs.
  • Experience working within regulated research or operational environments.
  • Previousexperience leading field teams, technicians, contractors, or seasonal personnel.

This position will involve a combination of office, laboratory, and outdoor field work. The Field Trials Manager should be comfortable working outdoors for extended periods and may be exposed to heat, humidity, insects, uneven terrain, agricultural environments, and other conditions associated with field research.

Regular travel to field trial locations will be required. Field activities may occasionally require early mornings, evenings, weekends, or adjusted schedules based on environmental conditions and trial requirements.
