With a deep commitment to trust, integrity and collaboration, Flyttr has become the trusted partner of governments, industries, philanthropies and communities seeking to make bold advancements on the biggest pest threats of our time. We work with urgency because lives and livelihoods depend on it. Successful candidates will find Flyttr to be an exhilarating place to do their best work and will find that every person at Flyttr plays a critical role in a dynamic, exciting, team-oriented culture.

Role Overview

As Production Manager, you will lead day-to-day production operations at Flyttr’s insect mass-rearing facility in San Antonio, Texas, translating our production strategy and quality standards into reliable, repeatable results on the shop floor. You will own rearing output
across the production line and will be the person who connects big-picture priorities to the practical realities of running a live production line every single day. You will work closely alongside the site team and international development and quality team s to ensure production needs are understood and met.
This is a hands‑on management role: solving problems in real time, and building the systems and culture needed to scale a biological manufacturing operation safely, consistently, and at pace.

Key Responsibilities
Production & Rearing Operations
  • Own end-to-end responsibility for insect mass-rearing production, including colony management, rearing schedules, throughput, and yield against production targets.
  • Translate production plans into daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules, adjusting resourcing and sequencing to meet demand.
  • Monitor rearing conditions and production KPIs in real time, identifying deviations early and directing corrective action before they affect output or quality.
  • Oversight of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Risk Assessments and Batch Records for all production activities, ensuring they are followed consistently across shifts.
  • Manage production capacity planning, escalating resourcing, equipment, or facility constraints that could affect the site’s ability to meet targets.
Equipment & Facility Coordination
  • Act as the primary production‑side point of contact on equipment reliability, maintenance scheduling, and facility issues affecting the production line.
  • Manage and resolve equipment performance issues, downtime, and facility risks promptly and coordinate production scheduling around planned maintenance windows.
  • Provide production requirements and input into equipment installation, commissioning, and any facility modifications.
  • Ensure production‑owned equipment and instruments (e.g. process monitoring, rearing equipment) are calibrated and validated in line with company and regulatory requirements.
Quality Management
  • Ensure rigorous compliance with on‑site quality assurance and quality control for the production operation, ensuring outputs consistently meet Flyttr’s biological and technical specifications.
  • Partner with HQ Science and Quality teams to implement, localize, and continuously improve record keeping, quality standards and specifications for the San Antonio site.
  • Champion a quality‑first culture among production staff, embedding quality checks into daily workflows rather than treating them as a separate function.
Team Leadership & People Management
  • Build, lead, and develop a high‑performance production team.
  • Set clear expectations, provide day‑to‑day coaching, and manage performance across shifts.
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, and training for production roles, building technical capability and cross‑training as the site scales.
  • Work with the H&S lead to foster a safety‑first, high‑performance culture on the production floor, ensuring staff are appropriately trained and supported.
Performance, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
  • Define and track production and quality KPIs, reporting performance, risks, and improvement plans.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to improve yield, efficiency, and consistency over time.
  • Manage the production operating budget, identifying cost efficiencies without compromising quality or compliance.
  • Ensure production operations comply with all applicable federal, state, and local requirements, including OSHA and any biosafety or biosecurity obligations relevant to Flyttr’s operations.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
  • 6+ years of experience in a production, manufacturing, or operations management role.
  • Experience operating within a regulated, quality‑driven production environment (e.g., GMP, ISO, biosafety, or equivalent), with a strong working understanding of quality systems and standards.
  • Proven people leadership experience, including managing shift‑based technical teams and building capability from the ground up.
  • Working knowledge of preventive maintenance and equipment reliability concepts, and experience working closely with facilities or engineering functions.
  • Comfortable operating across strategic and hands‑on levels, able to translate site and Head Office strategy into daily production plans and be present on the floor when needed.
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. workplace health and safety requirements, including OSHA.
  • Comply with all applicable health and safety policies, procedures, and site requirements, including laboratory safety and biosafety protocols.
Preferred
  • Experience in insect rearing, entomology, animal husbandry, agricultural production, or a comparable biological production environment.
  • Familiarity with biosecurity or biosafety facility requirements relevant to a regulated biological production site.
  • Experience establishing production operations at a new or greenfield facility.
  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, entomology, agricultural science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Behavioral Requirements
  • Commitment to, and passion for, the Flyttr mission and values.
  • Responsive to the needs of an international business working across different time zones, adapting working patterns in‑line with business requirements.
  • Positive, humble, co‑operative and professional always.
  • Works with urgency and solves things promptly.
  • Resilient and persistent in an innovative and constantly changing environment.
  • Proactive, resourceful, and comfortable building processes from scratch.
  • Values collaboration and works effectively with global colleagues.
