Job summary

The City of Oxnard's Public Works Department, Traffic Engineering Division, is seeking a Traffic Signal Repairer to install, inspect, test, and repair electrical signal control equipment and maintain traffic signals in the field and in the shop.

The role requires four years of related experience, a high school diploma or GED, and a California Class C driver's license; IMSA certification is highly desirable, and strong English communication is essential.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Four years of experience related to traffic signal repair or other electrical repair work
  • A valid California Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record may be required for some positions
  • Must be able to communicate in English effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Possession of a valid I.M.S.A. level I or II certification is highly desirable

Responsibilities

  • Install, inspect, test, and repair electrical and electronic signal control equipment to ensure correct timing and operations; make adjustments and repairs as needed
  • Install, replace, and repair electrical control devices and damaged poles
  • Maintain and repair traffic signals
  • Perform preventive maintenance on traffic signal control equipment and related systems, including painting and cleaning of equipment
  • Install and modify pull boxes and conduits
  • Replace lamps in traffic signal heads and streetlights
  • Repair damaged and malfunctioning signal and safety lighting equipment
