Field Testing Technician II (Crew Lead/In House Training) – Fairfax, Virginia

Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions, is actively seeking a Field Testing Technician II to join our Field Testing team in Fairfax, Virginia. This role offers a chance to grow a versatile career in the building enclosure testing industry.

Shift/Schedule

Monday – Friday with travel most weeks (overnight and/or local). 1st shift with occasional 2nd shift projects. Employees are paid for all travel time.

What you’ll do

• Lead field testing projects, data collection and report writing.
• Set up testing, including rough carpentry to construct test chambers.
• Operate testing equipment on building interiors and work with customers during tests.
• Operate high‑reach lift equipment (boom lifts, supported and suspended scaffolding).
• Assist with forensic investigations of building envelope failures (isolation work on exterior).
• Communicate with clients and project team regarding site observations and test preparation.
• Provide project planning on site for required elements such as water, electricity and access.
• Travel with overnight stays; company covers all travel expenses plus per diem.
• Perform physical work relevant to the role.

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• 2+ years of hands‑on experience in commercial construction, building envelope or fenestration.
• Ability to learn building envelope systems and their installation methods.
• Knowledge of test methods and standards for these systems or the ability to learn and comprehend these standards.
• Aptitude for working independently and leading a crew on assigned projects.
• Technical competency and ability to communicate effectively with customers and co‑workers, both in writing and orally.
• Strong planning and organizational skills to meet changing priorities and strict deadlines.
• Good computer skills – Microsoft Office & Outlook.
• Ability to work from ladders, boom‑lifts, roof levels, etc.
• Ability to routinely lift a minimum of 50 pounds, climb stairs and ladders, bend, crawl, push and pull as needed.
• Willingness to travel (locally and/or overnight) 75% of the time or more.
• Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Preferred Requirements and Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or higher preferred (related field).
