Jobtailor in Salem, OR, seeks a seasoned Equipment & Field Systems Specialist to manage, maintain, and optimize the survey and machine control equipment fleet across multiple projects. You will handle GNSS/GPS bases and rovers, total stations, cab kits, data collectors, and related accessories while preserving accurate inventories and deployment readiness.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional experience working with construction surveying, machine control, positioning technology, or a closely related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of Trimble survey and construction technology.
  • Demonstrated experience with GNSS/GPS base and rover systems.
  • Experience with robotic and/or conventional total stations.
  • Experience with construction machine control systems and cab kits.
  • Experience troubleshooting survey and machine control hardware in field environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of Trimble Business Center, Trimble WorksManager, Trimble Siteworks, and Trimble Earthworks.
  • Strong understanding of coordinate systems, GNSS corrections, control networks, field positioning, data transfer, and field-to-office workflows.
  • Strong organizational skills and experience managing equipment inventories.
  • Ability to diagnose technical problems and determine appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with field personnel, project staff, VDC personnel, vendors, and equipment technicians.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other normal business applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong desire and ability to self-learn and implement new technology.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Experience working for a construction contractor, heavy civil contractor, survey organization, or equipment technology provider (preferred).
  • Experience working directly with SITECH or Trimble technical representatives (preferred).
  • Advanced experience with Trimble GNSS and robotic total station systems (preferred).
  • Experience managing survey and machine control equipment across multiple active projects (preferred).
  • Experience developing equipment inventory, tracking, and maintenance systems (preferred).
  • Experience training field personnel on survey and machine control technology (preferred).
  • Familiarity with Trimble SCS900 and/or legacy Trimble field systems (preferred).
  • Surveying education or formal training (preferred).
  • Experience with construction technology procurement and capital equipment planning (preferred).
  • Familiarity with Autodesk Forma and VDC workflows (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Manage the company's survey and machine control equipment fleet, including GNSS/GPS base and rover systems, total stations, machine control cab kits, data collectors, radios, and accessories
  • Maintain accurate inventory records, equipment assignments, locations, conditions, and service status
  • Develop and maintain equipment check-in, check-out, deployment, return, inspection, and storage processes
  • Track equipment movement between offices, projects, and service providers
  • Establish standardized equipment kits and configurations for common field applications
  • Maintain organized storage of survey equipment and components
  • Identify obsolete, damaged, underutilized, or surplus equipment and recommend repair, replacement, or retirement
  • Perform routine inspections and verify equipment condition, functionality, configuration, and deployment readiness
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance, calibration, firmware updates, repairs, and service-provider shipments
  • Diagnose equipment issues and track repairs through return to service
  • Maintain spare equipment and components to minimize project downtime
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for field personnel using Trimble survey and machine control technology
  • Assist with equipment setup, configuration, calibration, and troubleshooting
  • Provide remote support and travel to project sites when necessary to resolve complex technical issues
  • Develop troubleshooting procedures, guides, best practices, training, and technical guidance
  • Support Trimble WorksManager, Trimble Siteworks, and Trimble Earthworks
  • Support field-to-office and office-to-field data workflows
  • Maintain standardized software, firmware, and equipment configurations
  • Maintain equipment inventories, service records, deployment information, and status documentation
  • Track utilization, repairs, downtime, and replacement needs
  • Prepare reports and recommendations for Equipment & VDC leadership
  • Develop equipment standards, checklists, troubleshooting guides, and field reference materials
  • Work with project teams, field crews, VDC staff, vendors, and equipment technicians across office, warehouse, and field environments
