Job summary

Thompson Tractor Company, Inc. is seeking a Field Technician to service and repair earthmoving equipment in the field or in our shop. You will evaluate, troubleshoot, and fix equipment, participate in on-the-job and classroom training, and demonstrate initiative and teamwork.

You will operate safely, follow procedures, perform preventative maintenance, and use service information systems. A valid driver's license is required; CDL/Med Card preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or the equivalent is required.
  • At least 1 year of mechanical repair experience or equivalent technical education is required.
  • Experience using personal computers and basic typing is required.
  • Med Card and CDL are preferred; MVR is required.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to and follows all safety standards and procedures.
  • Plans and performs minor repairs using correct tools and procedures.
  • Performs repairs on engines, hydraulics, transmissions, and electrical components: remove, install, disassemble, and reassemble; minor adjustments.
  • Performs preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrates proper use of service information systems.
  • Orders and returns parts for assigned jobs in a timely manner.
  • Tests and adjusts components for optimal performance.
  • Works independently in the field as required.
  • Must have a valid driver's license to be eligible for hire.

Job description

The Field Technician is responsible for performing service and repair work on equipment while working both independently and as part of a team. This role requires the ability to accurately evaluate, troubleshoot, and repair earthmoving equipment in the field and in shop environments. The Field Technician must successfully complete onthejob training, classroom instruction, and elearning. Successful candidates demonstrate initiative, strong teamwork, a commitment to customer service, and a dedication to providing efficient, effective solutions.

Advancement in Technician classification is based on attitude, skill development, and overall job performance.

Essential Responsibilities & Expectations
  • Adheres to and follows all applicable and required safety standards and procedures.
  • Plans and performs minor repairs using correct tools and procedures.

Qualifications
Education

High school diploma or the equivalent

Experience
  • A minimum of one (1) year's work experience involving mechanical repairs or a combination of relevant experience and equivalent technical education required.
  • Experience using personal computers and basic typing skills required.
  • Med Card and CDL preferred.
  • MVR (required)
Skills and Competencies
  • Intermediate engine, transmission, hydraulic, and electrical diagnostic, and repair skills
  • Written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Basic computer skills required.
Job Training
