The Field Technician is responsible for performing service and repair work on equipment while working both independently and as part of a team. This role requires the ability to accurately evaluate, troubleshoot, and repair earthmoving equipment in the field and in shop environments. The Field Technician must successfully complete on‑the‑job training, classroom instruction, and e‑learning. Successful candidates demonstrate initiative, strong teamwork, a commitment to customer service, and a dedication to providing efficient, effective solutions.

Responsibilities
- Adheres to all applicable safety standards and procedures.
- Plans and performs minor repairs using correct tools and procedures.
- Performs maintenance tasks on engines, hydraulics, transmissions, and electrical components: removal and installation, disassembly and reassembly, and minor adjustments as needed.
- Conducts preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and troubleshooting.
- Uses service information systems correctly.
- Orders and returns parts for assigned jobs in a timely manner.
- Tests and adjusts components for optimal performance.
- Works independently in the field as required.
- Maintains a productive work environment by acting and communicating in a manner that upholds the values of the Thompson Tractor brand.
- Demonstrates positive relationships with customers, clients, vendors, coworkers, and management.
- Has a valid driver’s license and proper attendance.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of mechanical repairs or relevant experience combined with equivalent technical education.
- Experience: Proficiency with personal computers and basic typing skills required.
- Preferred: Med Card and CDL.
- Required: MVR.
- Skills and Competencies: Intermediate engine, transmission, hydraulic, and electrical diagnostic and repair skills; written and verbal communication skills; basic computer skills.
- Job Training: Area-specific technical training; OSHA and MSHA required training; vendor technical sites (Infocast, Liftnet, SIMSi, etc.).
- Licenses & Certifications: Driver’s License (Personal).
