Job summary

ECS Group of Companies (ECS) is seeking a Field Technician for Construction Materials Testing (CMT) in Lynchburg, VA. The role is primarily field-based, focusing on observation, sampling, and data collection under supervision, with paid training and certification fee coverage.

No prior experience is required; a high school diploma is accepted. You will support project teams, report site conditions, assist with testing activities, and develop hands-on skills while upholding ECS Core Values.

Qualifications

• Good communication skills (verbal, written, reading comprehension)
• Basic math skills and data entry ability
• Ability to read maps, follow directions, and interpret plans (developing)
• Basic proficiency with electronic devices (tablets, phones, laptops)
• Ability to lift equipment and materials up to ~85 lbs
• Dependable, self-motivated, detail-oriented work ethic

Responsibilities

• Performs field observation, testing, and sampling of soil, aggregates, and concrete under supervision
• Assists with construction materials testing activities on project sites
• Communicates daily with contractors, technicians, and project managers
• Reports changing site conditions and additional testing needs to supervisors
• Assists with preparation and submission of daily field reports
• Supports basic calculations and data entry related to testing results
• Assists in organizing and maintaining field equipment
• Notifies supervisors of damaged or missing equipment
• Participates in project meetings with senior staff as requested
• Performs other field and project support duties as assigned
