Full-Time $45.76k to $56.16k/year Casual Attire

CEHMM a 501(c)3 non-profit conservation and environmental services organization, is seeking a full-time Field Technician – Conservation to assist with biological surveys, habitat management, and species monitoring while also contributing to data entry, mapping, and preparation of conservation reports. This position emphasizes learning survey protocols, developing technical skills, and supporting the broader conservation program under the direction of senior staff.

The Field Technician – Conservation position is a permanent full‑time position located in Carlsbad, NM, reporting to the Texas Hornshell Project Manager. The Field Technician – Conservation will accomplish a wide variety of program needs, including but not limited to:

Responsibilities

• Assist with biological surveys for sensitive species, including Texas Hornshell Mussel (THM), other aquatic species, and their associated habitats
• Support conservation program monitoring and long‑term data collection
• Enter, organize, and manage field data in spreadsheets, databases, or ArcGIS
• Assist with the preparation of maps and draft materials for conservation program reports
• Support habitat management and invasive species control
• Operate and maintain instruments, vehicles, and field equipment
• Maintain accurate field records and support technical report preparation
• Adhere to CEHMM protocols and safety guidelines
• Perform other duties as assigned

The salary range for this position is $22 - $27 per hour depending on experience. • Ability to follow instructions and learn established survey protocols
• Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

Preferred

• Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Biology, Range Science, Environmental Science, or related field
• Prior experience conducting wildlife or plant surveys, particularly for species of concern such as Lesser Prairie‑Chicken (LPC), Dunes Sagebrush Lizard (DSL), or Texas Hornshell Mussel (THM)
• Experience with ArcGIS Pro
• Experience operating and maintaining field equipment, UTVs, and trailers
• Experiment working with LPC, DSL, THM, or other regional species of concern
• Familiarity with ArcGIS Pro for mapping and data visualization
• Experience operating and maintaining field equipment, vehicles, or UTVs
• Interest in developing technical skills related to conservation or wildlife and fisheries management

• Ability to follow established protocols and work under supervision
• Basic knowledge of field survey methods for wildlife, plants, and habitats
• Ability to collect accurate field data and maintain organized records
• Ability to work safely in challenging field conditions
