Job summary

Cornerstone Utility Engineering is seeking a Field Technician to support field data collection for electrical distribution projects. This entry-level role involves outdoor work, standing between utility poles, taking measurements, photos, and maps to support engineering design.

You will wear PPE, follow safety procedures, travel across California, and work independently with supervision during training, aiming to grow into planner development within our field operations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid California driver’s license and ability to drive company vehicle.
  • Willingness to travel throughout California.
  • Able to lift 15–20 lbs regularly.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Collect field data for electrical distribution facilities, including measurements of attachment heights, span distances, and angles.
  • Utilize PPE, safe driving practices, and situational awareness to ensure accurate and efficient completion of tasks.
  • Submit organized, detailed data for each project, including maps, field notes, and digital images.
  • Operate and maintain equipment such as digital cameras, measuring tools, and PPE.
  • Represent Cornerstone professionally in the field, interacting with customers and stakeholders.
  • Communicate effectively with the project leadership team on a daily basis.
  • Work independently and safely without direct supervision.

Job Description:

Cornerstone Utility Engineering is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Field Technician to join our team. This role is essential for collecting technical information about electric utility and telecommunication facilities and equipment. Predominantly an outdoor position, the Field Technician will walk between spans of utility poles to capture data supporting utility engineering design projects. This entry-level Planner position offers comprehensive training, making it an excellent opportunity for those looking to start a career in utility engineering.

Qualifications:
  • Enjoy working outdoors in various weather conditions and engage in physically demanding work, including regularly lifting 15 to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to follow process specifications and guidelines in a high-quality environment.
  • Willingness to travel throughout California, with the ability to work outside in variable terrain and weather conditions.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including the ability to read, interpret, and follow GPS maps.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail for managing papers, photos, and file systems.
  • Comfortable with customer service, capable of explaining the purpose of visits and the work to be completed.
  • Ability to assist in the office as needed and attend training sessions for planner development.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Professional appearance and attitude.
  • High work standards with a quality orientation, embracing the company’s core values.
  • Valid California driver’s license and the ability to drive a company vehicle.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screen upon hire.
Preferred Skills:
  • Basic knowledge of electrical distribution systems.
  • Previous experience in electrical distribution fieldwork.
  • Knowledge of pole design, including GO-95 requirements and general safety practices.
  • Technical background.
Compensation:

$20.00 - $30.00 per hour, based on experience and productivity, plus a per diem rate for overnight trips.
