Job summary

New Visions Communications is seeking an experienced Field Technician to join our Syracuse, NY team. This hands-on role installs, maintains, and troubleshoots fiber‑optic internet, voice, OTT television, Wi‑Fi, and related services for residential and business customers.

We are looking for someone with several years of field experience who can quickly learn our systems, work independently, and provide professional service at customer locations.

Qualifications

  • Three to five years of relevant experience in telecommunications, broadband installation, fiber optics, cable television, low‑voltage wiring, electrical work, networking, or a related technical field.
  • Experience installing or supporting residential and business internet, television, telephone, or Wi‑Fi services.
  • Working knowledge of fiber‑optic cabling, Ethernet, Wi‑Fi, IP networking, and customer‑premises equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting, mechanical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to read technical diagrams, maps, blueprints, work prints, and wiring schematics.
  • Strong customer-service and communication skills.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor when working with customers and representing the company.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and adapt to changing schedules and priorities.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use laptops, smartphones, mobile applications, web-based systems, and electronic work-order platforms.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair fiber‑optic internet, voice, OTT television, Wi‑Fi, and related communications services
  • Install and configure optical network terminals, routers, wireless access points, telephone equipment, streaming devices, and other customer‑premises equipment
  • Install, route, terminate, splice, and test fiber‑optic, Ethernet, coaxial, and low‑voltage cabling
  • Diagnose and resolve connectivity, optical signal, wiring, equipment, Wi‑Fi, voice, and television service issues
  • Support network infrastructure and customer services by troubleshooting problems and taking corrective action in the field
  • Perform residential, small‑business, commercial, and multi‑dwelling‑unit installations and service calls
  • Assist customers with connecting and configuring computers, smartphones, televisions, streaming devices, and other network‑connected equipment
  • Clearly explain services, equipment, and technical issues to customers
  • Identify customer needs and explain relevant company services or equipment options when appropriate
  • Complete work orders, installation records, test results, equipment records, photographs, and field reports accurately
  • Coordinate with dispatch, customer support, network operations, and other field personnel throughout the workday
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work area at customer locations, company facilities, and within assigned company vehicles
  • Maintain company tools, test equipment, inventory, materials, and vehicles
  • Follow all safety requirements, construction standards, electrical and communications codes, and company procedures

Physical and Scheduling Requirements
  • Ability to safely climb and maneuver ladders and work from aerial lifts or bucket trucks
  • Ability to work at heights and in attics, basements, crawlspaces, utility areas, confined spaces, and active construction environments
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds
  • Availability for scheduled on‑call coverage, overtime, evenings, weekends, and emergency service work as needed
  • Reliable personal smartphone and cellular service suitable for work‑related calls, messaging, photographs, navigation, and field applications
