Job summary

NPAA is seeking a Field Technical Service Representative in automotive coatings to manage line performance, color troubleshooting, and reporting. You will collaborate with the Lansing team and customers to ensure smooth operations and data-driven color consistency.

Key duties include inventory coordination, project communication, and problem solving across production and QA teams, with emphasis on safety and quality in coatings processes.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree or minimum 2 years of customer-based technical experience in automotive paints.
  • Strong computer and software skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Good organizational and data interpretation skills.
  • Customer-focused with relationship-building abilities.
  • Experience with 2K coatings and respirator use.

Responsibilities

  • Build effective working relationships with key customer contacts.
  • Coordinate and communicate day to day operations and projects with customer base and Lansing personnel.
  • Monitor NPAA's online performance and incoming quality for processing, color, and appearance criteria.
  • Communicate problems and improvement opportunities to Lansing teams.
  • Obtain build data, inventory, and usages to communicate with Account Manager and Supply Demand Planning.
  • Work with customer and Sales to solve pricing, credit, debit, and RGA issues.
  • Implement and track value-added activities at the customer to improve the paint production process.
  • Analyze paint and process problems and determine root cause; implement preventative action.
  • Generate all reports, data, presentations, and documentation on projects and issues.
  • Coordinate and execute technical service needs of customer.
  • Recommend process changes for product performance improvement.
  • Coordinate sample submissions and production trials.
  • Participate in facility CIA program.
  • Assist in development of customer application line correlation and formula verification.
  • Communicate color adjustments completed on batches and samples to onsite reps and Lansing personnel.
  • Manage consignment program at customer if required.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Field Technical Service Representative main responsibilities include line performance and quality trend tracking, technical troubleshooting (color, appearance, etc.) and reporting. Documented inventory management, line trial support, new model color program management/support, and customer complaint assistance are additional responsibilities. The position also requires attention to inventory tracking and close communication on paint usage and trends with the account FTS Specialist, Technical Account Manager, and/or Account Manager.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build effective working relationships with key customer contacts.
  • Coordinate and communicate day to day operations and projects with customer base and appropriate Lansing personnel, including project work, developing schedules, and facilitating internal and external team meetings.
  • Monitor and track NPAA 's on-line performance and incoming quality for processing, color, and appearance criteria.
  • Effectively communicate problems, issues, and improvement opportunities to Lansing Paint Design Team, QA, Color Lab, and Production personnel.
  • Obtain information regarding build data, inventory, and usages to communicate with Account Manager and/or Supply Demand Planning representatives for effective inventory management. Essential tools-SAP.
  • Work with customer and Sales to solve pricing, credit, debit, and RGA issues
  • Responsible for implementing & tracking all value-added activities at the customer that improve the paint production process.
  • Analyze paint and process problems and use of formal problem-solving skills to determine root cause and implementation of preventative action(s). Essential tools- Action Registers.
  • Generate all reports, data, presentations, and documentation on projects and issues pertinent to the account as necessary in an effective and timely manner.
  • Coordinate and execute technical service needs of customer
  • Recommend process changes for product performance improvement
  • Coordinate sample submissions and production trials
  • Participate in facility CIA program
  • Assist in development of customer application line correlation and formula verification.
  • Communicate color adjustments completed on batches and samples to appropriate on site reps and Lansing personnel.
  • Ability to manage consignment program at customer if required.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate Degree or Minimum of 2 years of customer based technical experience in automotive paints
  • Computer and software skills
  • Communication skills (report writing and data interpretation)
  • Good organizational skills (data collection / graphing)
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Strong customer focus and relationship building skills
  • Be able to work with 2 component coatings and isocyanates
  • Ability to wear a respirator/all necessary PPE – including being clean shaven for respirator use.
