Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking an early-career Surveyor based in Charleston, WV to support water/wastewater, transportation, and other surveying projects. The role involves field data collection, instrument operation, and documentation, with opportunities toward licensure progress.

This position requires approximately 5 years of surveying or related field experience, strong attention to detail, and the ability to travel as needed.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of land surveying or related field experience.
• Familiarity with survey terms and use/maintenance of survey tools.
• Ability to read basic construction plans, alignment sheets, plats, sketches, and field documentation.
• Ability to maintain accurate notes, records, and daily documentation.

Responsibilities

• Assist survey crews with data collection for boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, construction layout, as-built, utility, infrastructure, and pipeline-related surveys.
• Operate and maintain survey instruments and measuring devices (Total Station, Data Collector, GPS/GNSS, levels, tapes).
• Perform routine checks for accuracy and reasonableness of field data.
• Keep accurate field notes, daily logs, and supporting documentation.
• Participate in basic construction layout and field engineering support under supervision.
• Assist with downloading, transferring, organizing, and submitting field data in digital format.
