Job summary

CAGE Civil Engineering is seeking a Survey Field Technician to support boundary, topographic, and construction staking surveys using GPS, total stations, and data collectors.

You will work with experienced surveyors and engineers in a hands-on, outdoors role, travel to job sites daily, and grow technical skills in modern surveying methods.

Qualifications

• At least a high school diploma; degree in surveying/geomatics preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of field surveying experience.
• Experience operating GPS units, total stations, and data collectors.
• Familiarity with Trimble equipment.
• Strong understanding of surveying principles, techniques, and instruments.
• Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Physical ability to lift 50 lbs., stand for long periods, bend, twist, and perform repetitive tasks.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel to project sites.
• Understanding of OSHA safety standards and Illinois labor laws.
• Commitment to professional integrity and non-discrimination policies.

Responsibilities

• Conduct topographic, boundary, and construction staking surveys using GPS, total stations, and data collectors.
• Accurately collect and record field data in accordance with project requirements.
• Collaborate with the Survey Crew Chief, project teams, and contractors to ensure precise data collection and staking.
• Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot field equipment as needed.
• Read and interpret survey notes, plans, and maps to guide fieldwork.
• Ensure all field activities follow company standards, OSHA safety procedures, and applicable regulations.
• Travel to job sites daily; work in a variety of field conditions and weather environments.
