Job summary

Timmons Group is seeking a Survey Instrument Operator to join our Survey Group in Ashburn, VA. You will assist Land Surveyors and Party Chiefs by performing field data collection, operating surveying instruments, and setting construction stakeout points.

The role requires endurance for all‑weather outdoor work, travel as needed, and precise measurement and record‑keeping to ensure accurate survey results. Comp range reflects hourly compensation with potential overtime.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions.
  • Ability to read survey and engineering drawings.
  • Ability to work with math concepts such as trigonometry and geometry.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team with good time management.
  • Valid state driver’s license.
  • Physical ability to carry up to 50 lb. of equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Collect data for boundaries, location, topographical, and design surveys.
  • Operate robotic total station, level, GPS receivers and data collectors in field surveys.
  • Set points on construction stakeout projects (curb and gutter, etc.).
  • Maintain and upkeep of instruments and equipment.
  • Sketch and record measurements to indicate exact locations of control points.
  • Assist in maintenance of survey equipment, supplies, and vehicles.
  • Travel may be required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
