Job summary

Timmons Group is seeking a Survey Technician/Senior Survey Technician for our Ashburn, VA office. You will support the Survey Group by drafting plats, descriptions, staking maps, and topographical surveys, while assisting in field duties as needed.

Ideal candidates have a degree or equivalent field experience and experience with GPS or 3D laser scanning, plus strong reading and communication skills. Join a full-service engineering and geospatial firm with a collaborative culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Associate degree in Land Surveying, Geomatics, Geography, Geospatial Information Sciences or related field (or 3+ years field experience).
• Experience with GPS and 3D laser scanning is a plus.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, project budgets, jurisdictional plats and drawings.
• Ability to read deeds, title reports, zoning reports, DOT plans, and aerial mapping.
• Ability to work with trig and geometry.

Responsibilities

• Drafts subdivision plats, boundary surveys and easement plats.
• Prepares parcel descriptions.
• Prepares staking maps for subdivisions, infrastructure improvements and site plans.
• Prepares cutsheets and construction take-offs.
• Drafts topographical surveys and creates digital terrain models.
• Performs limited courthouse research.
• Submits plats for jurisdictional approval.
• Works closely with the project manager and group leader.
• May substitute in the field when necessary.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
