Job summary

Rockwell Automation in Columbus, OH is seeking a Field Support Engineer to travel the service area, perform on-site installation and commissioning, and assure customer satisfaction. You will troubleshoot complex equipment, validate system operations, and coordinate with the Territory Services Manager from the Columbus region.

You will manage projects, support automation control systems and software applications, and produce documentation while communicating with customers and Rockwell teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required; US work authorization no visa sponsorship
  • Ability to travel 50% of the time
  • Valid driver’s license required

Responsibilities

  • Manage customer projects including needs identification, scheduling, tracking, and reporting
  • Support installation, startup, maintenance, and operation of automation systems and software applications
  • Evaluate and approve operational quality of equipment and act as customer liaison on technical matters
  • Participate in establishing and achieving customer satisfaction metrics
  • Develop and write validation plans, SOPs, qualification reports, and system audits
  • Communicate project details with Rockwell Automation and customer management

Job Description

As a field Support Engineer, you will be asked to travel throughout your assigned service area with a company vehicle to build customer relations and apply your technical expertise to on-site projects as you oversee field service deliverables, establish operational quality and assure customer satisfaction. You will provide customer support by performing on-site installation services and oversee any necessary diagnoses, troubleshooting, service, and repair of complex equipment and systems. You will check out and approve operational quality of system equipment, instruct customers in the operation and maintenance of the system and serve as company liaison with customers on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects. You can expect day and overnight trips. You will report to the Territory Services Manager and work from the Columbus, Ohio area. Your work will be primarily remote, with 50% commutable travel to customers within the region.

Your Responsibilities:
  • You will perform project management function for customer projects including needs identification, scheduling, tracking, and reporting.
  • You will provide services to support the installation, startup, maintenance, and operation of automation control systems and advanced manufacturing software applications, drive systems, manufacturing systems, industrial networks and the individual products that comprise these systems.
  • You will evaluate and approve operational quality of system equipment and serve as company liaison to the customer for multiple topics.
  • You will participate in the establishment, measurement, and achievement of customer satisfaction metrics.
  • You will develop and write documentation (validation project plans, standard operating procedures, qualification summary reports, system audits, technical reports, traceability matrix...).
  • You will need to communicate with Rockwell Automation and customer management regarding project details.
The Essentials - You Will Have:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
  • The ability to travel 50% of the time.
  • A valid drivers license.
The Preferred - You Might Also Have:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing, Industrial Automation, Engineering, or Technology-related field
  • Typically requires minimum 5+ years of related experience
  • Experience in industrial automation in Pharmaceutical, Food & Beverage, Metals, Water/Wastewater or others
  • PLC programming experience, using RSLogix 5, 500, 5000, and FactoryTalk Studio software
  • Studio5000, ControlLogix, CompactLogix
  • PowerFlex products and applications
  • Ethernet/IP, Stratix Switches
  • Servo/Motion control
  • Low Voltage PowerFlex Drives or Medium Voltage Drives
  • Multiple networks, including EtherNet, ControlNet, and DeviceNet
