Job summary

Rockwell Automation is seeking a Software Engineer to develop industry-leading commercial software and lead subsystems through design and testing. You will collaborate with global teams, promote strong engineering practices, and pursue career development opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum 5 years of related software engineering experience preferred.
  • Experience with data structures, algorithms, and OO design.
  • Knowledge of C++, C#, and design patterns is expected.
  • Experience with containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Hands-on with Jenkins, GitLab, and build systems; experience with Artifactory.
  • Proficiency in SQL databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle).
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled development tools and scripting languages.

Responsibilities

  • Develop subsystem designs and ensure they meet requirements.
  • Lead feature integration and collaborate across global teams.
  • Create and maintain unit tests and test suites.
  • Provide progress reports and manage design tradeoffs.
  • Maintain and improve software subsystems and code quality.
  • Communicate updates to customers and partners; stay current with tech trends.

Position Summary

As a Software Engineer for Rockwell Automation, you will develop industry-leading commercial software known for its innovation and usability. You will be an important player in subsystem design, implementation, and developer testing. You will play an active role in all the stages of the development lifecycle and support your team throughout the process. You will also help ensure that developed products meet requirements and are within total quality management standards. You will collaborate with multiple global teams and may also require you to be the technical lead of a small-scale feature or portion of a feature. You will also seek knowledge of new developments in the software engineering, computer engineering, and test automation fields and will identify and pursue career development opportunities.

Essential Functions
  • Document, contribute, and collect requirements for a feature and its components.
  • Develop new subsystem designs or help existing ones ensuring they meet the established requirements.
  • Establish a timeline and determine the resources needed to implement a design.
  • Consider tradeoffs between requirements, speed, cost, and reliability in the choice of a design approach.
  • Provide progress reports.
  • Implement and documents code that meets the requirements of the software design.
  • Develop unit test plans. Report and resolves anomalies.
  • Take the lead in the integration of other components by solving problems within subsystems to produce a final product.
  • Participate in reviews of documents, designs, code, test cases and user documentation.
  • Estimates, plans, develops test suites, test cases and automated tests to ensure appropriate functional test coverage is attained.
  • Determine the origin and cause of anomalies identified.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and integrity of one or more software subsystems.
  • Build relationships and work with peers to ensure assigned tasks are prioritized.
  • Think outside the box and be willing to research and explore new avenues using the latest technologies and standards.
  • Experience communicating updates and resolutions to customers and other partners.
  • Stay informed about relevant technology trends and developments
Essentials - You Will Have
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
The Preferred - You Might Also Have
  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience.
  • Experience with data structures and algorithms
  • Knowledge of object-oriented designs
  • Experience with design patterns
  • Direct experience with C++, C#, or other relevant programming languages
  • Direct experience with the Industrial Automation industry
  • Experience with Jenkins, Artifactory, GitLab, Make and Build systems
  • Experience with AI-Enabled Software development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, or Cursor
  • Experience with Scripting languages like Python, Ruby, PowerShell, and JavaScript
  • Experience architecting modular software
  • Basic knowledge of testing integrated software products
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience with a relational database such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle
