Job summary

AXIS Engineering in Baton Rouge, LA is seeking a Structural Engineer for an on-site, full-time role supporting city projects. The position focuses on building inspections, code compliance, plan review support, and enforcement services for residential and commercial projects.

You will work with city staff, contractors, and engineers to verify LSUCC and ICC code adherence, prepare inspection reports, and coordinate scheduling.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• PE license is a plus.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to perform field inspections and verify code compliance.
• Assist with plan reviews and construction document evaluation.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field inspections of residential construction including new, additions, and renovations.
• Inspect foundations, concrete placement, framing, roofing, envelopes, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, energy codes, and life safety systems.
• Verify compliance with LSUCC, ICC Codes, City ordinances, UDC, and relating regulations.
• Review approved plans, permit documents, prior inspection reports, and engineering documents before inspections.
• Identify code deficiencies and issue correction notices, Stop Work Orders, and violation notices.
• Prepare written inspection reports and attend meetings with City officials, IBTS personnel, contractors, developers, and citizens.
• Coordinate inspection scheduling and prioritize workload; perform emergency inspections when requested.
