Job summary

WSP is seeking a Field Structural Engineer for Rail Projects in Brooklyn, NY, on-site 100% of the time. You will support PMCM teams, review drawings, and monitor construction activities including rail outages and safety compliance.

Required 3–5 years in railroad construction, BS in Civil Engineering, and ability to travel. Expected duties include daily inspections, punch lists, and coordination with contractors to meet project objectives.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years minimum experience in railroad construction.
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering required.
  • Ability to pass Safety Training and background checks.
  • Proficient with Windows/Office and scheduling applications.
  • Valid driver's license with possible regional travel.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Project Manager/Client Management as directed.
  • Review shop drawings and provide engineering support during construction.
  • Provide technical guidance to staff, contractors, and vendors.
  • Check designs and drawings for compliance.
  • Monitor rail outage schedules and perform daily inspections.
  • Prepare daily inspection reports and punch lists.
  • Coordinate activities on site with other trades and the facility.
  • Ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and timely delivery.

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Field Structural Engineer on Rail Projects in our 800 Broadway, Brooklyn NY - Client's office 100% of the time. Your Impact

Job Duties:

  • Provide assistance to the Project Manager / Client Management team as directed
  • Review shop drawings and provide engineering support during construction
  • May be required to provide technical guidance and direction to support staff, contractors, and/or vendors
  • Check designs and drawings
  • Experience with Rail Outage and schedules
  • Nights / Weekend work required – 12 hours shifts
  • Overall contract compliance via daily inspections for all rail construction
  • Prepare daily inspection reports in accordance with the project's requirements
  • Monitoring of sub-contractor & supplier usage to ensure pre-approval before work starts
  • Assist the contractor(s) with the coordination of activities on the construction site with the other trades and the facility
  • Monitor workforce and performance against the work plan
  • Complete punchlists and track completion
  • Perform additional duties as deemed necessary
Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • 3-5 years minimum experience in Railroad construction experience
  • Knowledge of Ballast, Ties and Rail structure, bridge and facility construction methods, materials, standards, and specifications, with knowledge of all facets of construction and construction documents.
  • Knowledge of typical Structural Steel Repairs, experience in reviewing shop drawings
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
  • Ability to pass Safety Training
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and materials.
  • Working knowledge of state and federal safety, environment guidelines and regulations.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills utilizing Windows / Outlook / Word / Excel and scheduling applications
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Valid driver’s license - Occasional travel within the region may be required.
  • Proven ability to adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to and contingent upon client approval of candidates put forth for consideration by WSP and successful background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Agency Construction preferred.
  • OSHA 30 Certification

Compensation

Expected Salary: $90,800 - $129,800

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
