Job summary

WSP is seeking an Early Career Structural Engineer for our Lawrenceville, NJ or Morristown, NJ offices to join the Transportation Team. You will contribute to projects with NJDOT, NJTA and other agencies, supporting design and construction tasks.

The role emphasizes learning, fieldwork, calculations, drawings, and cost estimates; you will assist more experienced engineers, develop technical writing and analytical skills, and may travel occasionally.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• 0–1 year of relevant post-education experience.
• Internship experience, leadership experience, or relevant coursework.
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Strong technical writing, analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
• Apply basic principles of Structural Engineering.
• Assist with project research, field work, and design calculations and analysis.
• Support preparation of design drawings/plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.
• Assist more experienced engineers and assume more responsibility as experience increases.
• Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
• Complete training on assigned tasks.
• Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

• Projects which are currently active include work on bridges, sign structures, and ancillary structures for NJDOT, NJTA, and other agencies.
• We support design and construction support services including site visits to verify design constraints or assess construction conditions.

Your Impact

• Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.

• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
• Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in an accredited Civil Engineering, or related degree. Recent Masters Degree recipients are also encouraged to apply.
• 0 to 1 years of relevant post education experience.
• Prior internship experience, leadership experience, or relevant coursework.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Strong technical writing, analytical and communication skills.
• Detail-oriented with an emphasis on quality work products.
• The selected candidate must have the ability to work in the United States immediately.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Recent graduate or May 2026 Graduate in an accredited Civil Engineering, or related, Undergraduate or Graduate program.
• 0-3 years of internship/early career experience in Structural Engineering.
• Experience using Microstation, AutoCAD and knowledge of reading drawings.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• E.I.T. Certification.

Compensation: Expected Salary (all locations): $72,700 - $100,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
