Job summary

Rio Grande Electric Cooperative, Inc. in Texas is hiring a Staking Technician to evaluate member service needs and design, stake, and inspect overhead and underground distribution lines. You will prepare job packets, line extension estimates, and ensure ROW processes align with policy and codes.

This role requires GIS awareness, GPS and AutoCAD familiarity, and strict adherence to safety rules while coordinating with multiple teams for accurate meter and billing data.

Qualifications

• Three years’ experience or associate’s degree and one year experience.
• Apply engineering theory to electric distribution line design.
• Knowledge of RUS specs, NESC, and utility construction methods.
• Experience with GPS, staking software and AutoCAD is a plus.
• Understand GIS, mapping terminology and surveying concepts.
• Interpret system maps, drawings and staking sheets.

Responsibilities

• Stake overhead and underground primary and secondary distribution lines.
• Design services for new members, upgrades, conversions, and system improvements.
• Operate GPS and digital staking equipment to prepare job packets.
• Prepare line extension cost estimates and ensure policy compliance.
• Coordinate ROW acquisition with landowners and public entities.
• Update GIS/mapping databases with field data.
• Ensure designs comply with RUS specs and NESC.
• Perform post-construction inspections for safety and design compliance.
