Job summary

PDW is seeking a Senior Field Software Engineer for the Advanced Mission Group (AMG). You will work with operators, customers, and engineering teams to rapidly translate mission needs into working software in the field.

Ideal candidates prototype quickly, even with incomplete requirements, and deliver proof‑of‑concepts that are reliable, documented, and useful for guiding product decisions. Travel up to 50% is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in a technical field.
• 5+ years of professional software development or field engineering experience.
• Proficiency in C++ and Python; strong Linux development skills.
• Experience with APIs, SDKs, and vendor tools.
• Ability to work independently in field environments and travel up to 50%.

Responsibilities

• Engage with operators and customers to identify minimal viable software solutions.
• Translate operational needs into clear software behaviors and test criteria.
• Develop proof‑of‑concept software, scripts, and data pipelines for rapid validation.
• Integrate third‑party hardware and software via APIs and protocols.
• Troubleshoot across application, OS, network, and hardware boundaries in real time.
• Document interfaces, limitations, and next steps for prototypes to transition to product engineering.
