Job summary

Onebrief is seeking Forward Deployed Engineers to partner directly with military operators, translating mission needs into production-grade software. You will embed in field environments, inspect APIs and schemas, and build reusable integrations across core platforms.

As part of a distributed team, you will work with engineering, product, and customer teams to deploy in restricted and air-gapped environments, travel 25–50% as needed, and contribute to DoD-aligned engineering practices.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of progressive software engineering, solutions engineering, or field software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in Python, C++, C#, TypeScript, Go, REST/gRPC APIs, relational databases, data modeling, JSON/XML schemas, microservices, and cloud/edge infra.
• Ability to parse logs, diagnose failures across multiple systems, and isolate root causes (air-gapped environments helpful).
• Excellent ability to explain trade-offs, lead sessions with users, and manage urgency with non-technical stakeholders.
• Active Secret clearance required.
• Willingness to travel 25-50%

Responsibilities

• Translate complex mission friction into software solutions by inspecting schemas and APIs.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering to generalize field fixes into platform capabilities.
• Connect Core and Atom Engine with partner systems and military data structures.
• Isolate failure domains in the field with clear reproduction steps and logs.
• Brief stakeholders with engineers and senior military leaders on operational impact.
