Job summary

SPL is hiring a Field Services Technician II to join our Plano, TX field sampling team. You will perform regulated environmental sampling, collect water and wastewater samples, and support lab workflows as needed.

The role requires outdoor work, operation of sampling equipment, and flexibility to work extended hours or weekends based on operational needs. Experience in environmental services or field operations is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; vocational training in a related technical field preferred.
• Hands-on experience in field services or regulated sampling.
• Familiarity with sampling techniques and equipment operation, including composite/automated samplers.

Responsibilities

• Perform regulated environmental sampling at municipal, industrial, and commercial sites.
• Collect and transport water, wastewater, groundwater, and other samples.
• Deploy, program, operate, and maintain composite sampling equipment.
• Load, unload, and transport samplers and field equipment at client sites.
• Conduct field inspections, measurements, and environmental monitoring.
• Maintain sample integrity and chain of custody; manage holding times.

We’re searching for a motivated, detail-oriented Field Services Technician II to join our field sampling team in Plano, TX. In this role, you’ll perform regulated environmental sampling, water and wastewater sample collection, environmental monitoring, field inspections, and specialized field operations, including independent execution of environmental sampling programs and operation of automated composite sampling equipment. This position also plays an important role in supporting environmental laboratory operations and requires flexibility to assist with laboratory workflows, sample receiving, sample preparation, and operational support as business needs require.
This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with backgrounds in environmental science, environmental services, wastewater operations, water treatment, utilities, industrial services, laboratory support, environmental compliance, field sampling, or technical field operations who enjoy hands‑on outdoor work, operational variety, and cross-functional responsibilities.

What You’ll Do

• Perform regulated environmental sampling at municipal, industrial, and commercial sites
• Collect and transport water, wastewater, groundwater, and other environmental samples
• Deploy, retrieve, program, operate, and maintain composite sampling equipment
• Load, unload, and transport samplers, coolers, and field equipment at client sites
• Conduct field inspections, measurements, and environmental monitoring
• Identify and resolve routine sampling or equipment issues
• Maintain sample integrity, preservation, chain of custody, and holding times
• Complete field logs, electronic records, and compliance documentation
• Prepare and maintain sampling kits, equipment, coolers, and supplies
• Support in-house sample receiving, verification, and preparation as needed
• Communicate professionally with clients and elevate non-routine issues
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

• High School Diploma or equivalent; Vocational training in a related technical field preferred
• Demonstrated hands‑on experience in field services, regulated field sampling, or related technical roles
• Familiarity with field sampling techniques and equipment operation, including composite and/or automated samplers, strongly preferred
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer applications
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record

Work Schedule, Travel & Physical Requirements

• Full-time, field-based position
• Ability to work outdoors and operate a company vehicle for extended periods in all weather conditions
• Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing 35-70 pounds for up to 100 yards, depending on site requirements
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including start times as early as 6 AM, variable end times based on operational needs, and extended days, evenings, weekends, or overtime - sometimes with limited notice.
• Regular exposure to chemicals and strong or unpleasant odors (e.g., wastewater or industrial materials)
