Job summary

SPL in Reading, PA is seeking a Field Services Technician II to perform regulated environmental sampling, field inspections, and support lab operations. This full-time, on-site role involves independent execution of sampling programs and operation of automated composite sampling equipment.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, some vocational training, and hands-on field experience, with proficiency in MS Office and a valid driver’s license; willingness to travel to client sites and work

Responsibilities

  • Perform regulated environmental sampling and sample collection per approved methods.
  • Travel to client sites to pick up and deliver samples.
  • Maintain chain-of-custody and sample integrity during transport.
  • Operate and troubleshoot composite sampling equipment.
  • Complete field documentation and electronic records.
  • Support laboratory workflow and sample processing as needed.

We’re searching for a detail-oriented Field Services Technician II to join our team in Reading, PA.

In this role, you’ll perform regulated environmental sampling, water and wastewater sample collection, environmental monitoring, field inspections, and specialized field operations, including independent execution of environmental sampling programs and operation of automated composite sampling equipment. This position also plays an important role in supporting environmental laboratory operations and requires flexibility to assist with laboratory workflows, sample receiving, sample preparation, and operational support as business needs require.

What You’ll Do
  • Perform regulated environmental sampling and sample collection, in accordance with approved methods and regulatory requirements
  • Travel to and from client sites to pick up and deliver samples following assigned routes and schedules
  • Maintain proper sample custody, integrity, and regulatory holding times during transport
  • Deploy, retrieve, program, operate, troubleshoot, and maintain composite sampling equipment
  • Verify composite sampler operation and document maintenance, corrective actions, and field activities
  • Conduct field inspections at water treatment facilities, well sites, distribution systems, and storage locations
  • Perform required field measurements, observations, and documentation
  • Independently identify and resolve routine sampling or equipment issues; elevate non-routine concerns as needed
  • Complete chain-of-custody records and required field and electronic documentation accurately
  • Perform in-house sample triage, including verification of containers, preservation, labeling, and documentation
  • Prepare, stage, and replenish sample kits, coolers, and field supplies
  • Interact professionally and courteously with clients during field activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What We’re Looking For
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Vocational training in a related technical field preferred
  • Previous hands-on experience in field services, regulated sampling, warehouse, or related technical or labor roles
  • Familiarity with field sampling techniques and equipment operation is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other basic computer applications
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
Work Schedule & Requirements
  • Full-time, field-based position
  • Flexibility to work outside of regularly scheduled hours as operational needs require
  • Ability to safely operate a company vehicle in varying weather conditions and terrain for extended periods throughout the workday
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in all weather conditions
  • Regular exposure to environmental elements, chemicals, and strong or unpleasant odors, including wastewater and industrial materials
