Job summary

A regional government agency in Georgia is seeking a skilled individual for the role of Water Meter Technician. The ideal candidate will be responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining water meters as well as connecting and disconnecting water services. With a requirement of a high school diploma and valid Georgia driver's license, candidates should also have two years of experience in meter reading or maintenance. This position involves working outdoors and engaging with customers to address service issues.

Salary Range: $17.68 - $28.43/Hour Salary Grade: 9 FLSA: Nonexempt

Purpose of Classification

The purpose of this classification is to install, repair and maintain water meters, connect and disconnect water services, and perform related duties in the field for the County's water utility.

Essential Functions

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Responds to requests for service and/or complaints regarding meter operations; investigates meter’s operating condition; troubleshoots problems; calibrates meter if needed; and educates customers on program policies and procedures.

Installs, cleans, maintains and replaces water meters; locates meters and marks meter location; utilizes maps, metal detectors, previous location markings, etc.; replaces defective parts such as couplings, washers, and meter boxes; repairs meters and leaks; and performs routine maintenance.

Connects new and re-established water services; installs and connects water meters; disconnects delinquent accounts; and locks or pulls meters as needed; and leaves required notices for customers regarding meter problems, billing or other issues.

Utilizes assigned vehicle to travel to and from service locations; utilizes GPS devices, map books, or personal knowledge to locate service addresses; maintains trip logs and other required documentation.

Maintains and updates customer information in departmental computer systems; and enters data regarding inspections, repairs, customer complaints and requests, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; two years of experience in meter reading, installation or maintenance; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Specific License or Certification Required

Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
