Job description

We are seeking a motivated, mechanically inclined Entry-Level Field Service Engineer to join our growing field service team. This position offers hands-on, paid training and the opportunity to develop valuable technical skills while working with advanced automated material handling equipment and industrial electrical and mechanical systems.

As a Field Service Engineer, you will travel to customer facilities throughout the United States and Canada to install, assemble, commission, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair industrial equipment. You will work directly with customers, solve technical challenges, and help ensure equipment operates safely, reliably, and efficiently.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong mechanical foundation and a background in construction, industrial maintenance, or equipment installation who enjoys hands-on work, problem-solving, and traveling.

Please note: This is a highly travel-intensive position, with approximately 75% travel. Assignments may require you to be away from home for one or two weeks at a time. Success in this role requires self-motivation, organization, adaptability, and the ability to work independently in the field.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, assemble, construct, and commission automated material handling equipment at industrial and commercial customer sites.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical and mechanical systems using multimeters, diagnostic equipment, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on AC/DC electrical systems, low- and high-voltage equipment, wiring, and electronic components within the scope of your training and authorization.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, engineering drawings, blueprints, equipment manuals, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and industrial equipment to assemble, disassemble, maintain, and repair machinery.
  • Perform preventive maintenance to support equipment reliability, operational efficiency, and minimal downtime.
  • Set up and troubleshoot basic computer hardware, network connections, and software associated with industrial equipment.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, explain technical issues, and provide updates on repairs and equipment status.
  • Complete accurate service reports, maintenance logs, timekeeping records, data sheets, and travel documentation.
  • Follow all jobsite safety procedures, company policies, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Maintain an organized approach to scheduling, travel arrangements, parts, tools, and service documentation.
Qualifications and Skills
Technical and Mechanical Skills
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with tools, equipment assembly, or machinery.
  • Construction, industrial maintenance, manufacturing, electrical, or mechanical experience is strongly preferred.
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems, including AC/DC circuits, low-voltage wiring, and electronic components.
  • Familiarity with multimeters and other diagnostic tools, or the willingness and ability to learn their proper use.
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals, schematics, blueprints, and equipment drawings.
  • Basic computer skills and an interest in learning industrial controls, networking, and equipment-related software.
  • Strong troubleshooting, critical-thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
Professional Skills
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage assignments with limited direct supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly when completing service reports and paperwork.
  • Professional communication and customer service skills.
  • Willingness to learn, accept feedback, and complete paid on-the-job training.
  • Commitment to safe work practices, reliability, and quality workmanship.
Travel and Physical Requirements

Candidates must be able to meet the following requirements:

  • Travel approximately 75% of the time throughout the United States and Canada, including assignments lasting one to two weeks.
