The Field Service Engineer holds a critical, advanced role in supporting EMG’s most complex automation systems and customer applications. This position is responsible for leading system commissioning, advanced diagnostics, and technical problem resolution in the field, often serving as the highest level of on-site technical authority. Drawing on deep engineering expertise and extensive field experience, the Field Service Engineer partners closely with customers, EMG GmbH Service, and Sales teams to optimize system performance, resolve escalated issues, and ensure EMG solutions meet the highest standards of reliability, safety, and operational excellence.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Is the subject matter expert of products and processes, and serves as a primary resource for customers and Field Service Technicians.
- Autonomous learner who takes initiative for self-development in product application, industry, and service performance.
- Exemplifies the “right the first time” performance standard, ensuring all service interventions are correct and timely.
- Maintain up‐to‐date technical knowledge of EMG products to install, commission, train, and diagnose problems within software and electronics equipment.
- Service previously installed equipment.
- Conduct computer networking.
- Ability to interpret and understand wiring diagrams, single phase AC, DC wiring, voltmeter usage, RS 232 and RS 422, Ethernet protocol (TCPIP) and soldering.
- Serves as Help Desk Technician for OEMs/customers.
- In‑House EMG modules testing and repair.
- Complete and adhere to customer safety expectations.
- Visit customers in order to review applications, collect technical details for Technical File of new or retrofit orders.
- Prepares Service/Time Report and Acceptance report for customer’s approval.
- Provide excellent customer service via phone, email and when onsite.
- Assist in EMG product demonstrations at trade shows.
- Assist with shipping and receiving in office when Parts/Inventory Manager not available.
- Communicate effectively with customers, salespersons, engineers and other departments.
- Prepare proper required documentation and tools to take to customer site.
- Conducts emergency traveling to customers.
- Make all air, hotel, and auto travel arrangements for travel to customer site according to Company travel policies.
- Provide after-hours on-call customer service support by phone and email when scheduled.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience Requirements:
- Previous Field Service experiences of 10 years+ with international experience a plus.
- Demonstrated experience in product lifecycle and obsolescence management.
- Proven track record of technical process implementation and technical documents redaction.
- High electrical and mechanical aptitude.
- Demonstrated in-depth electrical troubleshooting abilities.
- Computer literate - Proficient in Microsoft-based systems.
- Experience in image processing applications or printing and converting is preferred.
- Ability to work independently.
- Possess to date driver’s license with no physical limitations.
- Physical ability to travel by airplane for an extended amount of time.
- Excellent Communication Skills.
- Spanish and German Language Skills a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent lifting/pushing/pulling/moving weights up to 25 lbs.
- Infrequent lifting/pushing/pulling/moving weight up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent crouching, bending, and twisting in a manufacturing industrial environment.
- Ability to travel with a 50-pound tool chest (on wheels), and agility for stooping, climbing, and crawling on and around equipment during service and training.
Education requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in the fields of electrical, electronics, engineering, or equivalent experience required.
Up to 75% travel between the United States and Canada.
Infrequent international travel to Europe required.
