Job description

Location: Chicago, Milwaukee, and Northern Illinois Area

Overview:
Nilfisk is seeking a Field Service Technician to provide on-site troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of commercial and industrial floor care equipment. This role requires extensive travel across Chicago, Milwaukee, and Northern Illinois, ensuring customer equipment operates at peak performance. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills and a commitment to delivering excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in commercial and industrial floor cleaning equipment at customer locations and branch shops.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and inspections to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Accurately document service work, including troubleshooting steps, repairs performed, and parts used, in the field service management software.
  • Maintain appropriate stock levels of spare parts in the service vehicle to ensure prompt repairs.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, providing guidance on proper equipment use and maintenance.
  • Adhere to safety procedures and company policies while working on-site.
  • Work flexible hours, including 2nd or 3rd shifts, when required for customer training or emergency service needs.
Qualifications:Education & Experience:
  • Associate degree or equivalent from a technical school preferred.
  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience in mechanical, electrical, or field service roles, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Technical Skills:
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and electrical testing equipment.
  • Knowledge of internal combustion engines and AC/DC electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and business applications for reporting and documentation.
Certifications & Requirements:
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOT certification.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Customer-focused approach with a commitment to high-quality service.

The estimated pay range indicates the expected annualized pay range for this position. It may not include potential bonus incentives such as annual bonus' as well as sales and sales related incentives, or overtime (on eligible positions). The actual pay offered may vary based on several factors, including the applicant's qualifications, relevant experience, unique skills, education level, certifications or licenses, and the location from which they will work. The final pay determination will comply with state or local minimum wage laws applicable to the job's location. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
